Might it make more sense to have the default set to "Do not show forum" vs " Show forum"? By having it default to the on position, you better make sure that this is what you want displayed on your calling card.

Actually it makes for a great calling card if DPC wants to attract more sensitive folks. Anybody who has been on the web for more than a day should know how G rated this place is. The forums are moderated here and as a result whenever a troll does show up they stick out like a sore thumb.

It has been a calling card for years and I fail to understand how sensitivity and placing a forum on the front page correlates with the placement of dirty laundry. Is there such a thing as a submitter troll? One who swoops in, submits an image and leaves? Would they then be considered rude for hanging their "stuff" on the wall without having tea with the family? Should they too be shunned and moderated like forum trolls?? ;-)

I can understand feeling at a disadvantage in an Expert challenge.

I can not understand wanting to limit Expert challenges to once a month. Or once a year. For those who want to learn, that slows the learning process down too much. For those who have no interest, it's still going to feel like a high frequency of Expert editing challenges.

Those who stand for Limited editing--stick to your guns. You can enter any challenge. I have a great love/fascination with Expert editing & I can enter only those challenges. Once a month seems like ostracism.

Photography has been lost at DPC, the focus is on the social get together by the selected few who have been here for a very loooong time, the analogy to a small local pub works well. I have seen some intelligent attempts for a good photography discussion but they got no responses. The art of making constructive comments has been lost. I wish I were here in 2005 when the best of DPC was happening. As such there isn't much to see here. After sleeping over it I see no future to DPC. Not worth the effort.

So what's keeping you here?

Are you the bartender or the bouncer?

Obviously not the bouncer.

You told me to leave. That's a bouncer's job.

No, I asked you a question. If DPC has no future and it's not worth the effort to change it then why are you still here? Clearly you don't like the status quo.

Photography. Whatever is left of it on this site. And gyaban, samantha_t, ursula, roz - the greats of DPC who are still around. But the site is dying as a functional, forward looking photography site, it is becoming more and more just a local pub to hang out in, with its bartenders and bouncers.

So you like front runners? That's your reason for staying? When you turn on the radio and they play a song you don't know, not by a superstar, do you change the channel and curse the radio?

Perhaps the bloom is off the Rose with respect to the challenge aspect of the site for you. But the social aspect of the site makes it an arts community, that is more important than the challenge aspect in my opinion.

However, I am not sure why I wasted my time replying here.

A more constructive approach to get changes done would be for the DPC community to agree on what we like and THEN write an open letter to Langdon - WITHOUT a bunch of bickering attached to it.

There is little he can (or will) do with a thread like this with thousand different requests and few in agreement. He would have a much harder time ignoring a request from a large group that stand together.

I suggest making a short list of 'must have's' and leave it at that as phase one. We'll get the list 'approved' by as many as we can in the DPC member community and submit it in such a way that he knows its from 'all of us'.

If that doesn't work, I think we're shit out of luck. But then we might as well stop these threads and enjoy the site for what it is, or leave. Your choice.

i think you kind of just described "get satisfaction"

eta: had a funny thought while shooting "silence" this morning...langdon IS communicating with us regularly, with the topics he chooses. last week he selected "you're doing it wrong" and "silence"....do you think he might be telling us something :)

Thanks. I DO appreciate your time. I might have a "front runners" taste but I don't think I am entirely wrong.

As a direct result of this very important topic I, guess what, took my camera bag out and went shooting.

I realized one thing, Langdon can not change DPC. We can. We are the ones enjoying our hobbies. Forget trying to tell Langdon what and how and for heavens sake stop telling each others what they should shouldn't. Do not blame others for your unhappiness.

I pay an enormous price for doing what I did today, but I will go to bed tonight knowing I, ME Myself did something for me today. And if there is anything worthy, watch me enter a challenge.

We, we only, will make a difference. We the people ...... (Dedicated to the words of Kelli ... yes sweetheart, the bigger core of the oldies stayed... it indeed speaks for itself.)

Allrightyyyyy peoples, not that I have any insider knowledge or anything like that, but basically we are on our own for the far near future.

It is up to us to make this website work for the near future and beyond for a while, it is going to be, what we make it and if we want it to keep on running, it is our doing until a couple of certain things change. So my proposal is to start side challenges and mentoring programs , I have asked SDW if he wants to run the Olympics with me again so we shall see. Nothing is going to change at all in the near future, as of right now. It boils down to, if you want to stay , then stay, if you don't want to stay, nought can be done about it. But I can tell you now, no point in having these threads for the near future, it is just gonna be go with the flow or step out of the current, cus nought is changing.

And that is all I have to say on that matter for the time being.

DO NOT LISTEN TO HER! She does not speak the truth. I've seen the Langdon and through telepathy he said he will return ..... after he does some shuffling around of a few galaxies and chores and things. He speaks to you all through challenge titles anagramatically, mysterious timelines and his sacred troll messengers. In the meantime, he said the destruction of all Canon products will please him immensely for which he will bestow blessings upon the community through spell checker functionality and more "Super Expert" challenges in which Gyaban may not participate. ;-)

Of course by the time he gets done with all of that and taking into account the time dilation due to Langdon's light speed travel, he will have aged 2 years while our memberships will have been passed down generations to our great great grandkids.
