Wow one of the worlds most famous paintings is nicked.

What use is stealing an ultra-famous painting? Do they stash it away for a few years and hope people actually forget it's stolen so they can sell it for millions? Willing to bet the auction houses would remember that. Or do they just hang it in some ultra-private collection where no one else can see and appreciate it, dare they think... "hey, shouldn't this be in some museum somewhere?"

I guess I don't understand the criminal mind. Crazy.

Yes i don`t think it will turn up on ebay.
Will now be hanging in a very private collection.

The paintings (since there was in fact two) could potentially be held for ransom.

Edit: Typo.

That was a previous copy, stolen and recovered in 1994. There are multiple original copies of his work.

Maybe they like it and want it on their wall. If only they knew what a value DPCPrints was! They wouldn't have to resort to cirminal acts!

most likely it will be sold to a private collector.
There's big bucks in involved.
It might dissapear for a hundred years till it's 'discovered' by some kid going through the attic in grannies mansion.

... or it may be an attempt to drive up the value of the remaining versions.

Could be yet another "art-napping" to blackmail the insurence company...
