I need a new tripod head for my carbon fiber legs. I need it to be light weight as it will be used for trekking in Bhutan. I shoot with a Nikon D800 and my longest lens is a 400mm. I'm petite with small hands so I'm looking for something that doesn't take extreme strength to adjust. I would love to hear any feedback or experience other users have. Thanks!

i use manfrotto 055xprob i believe. ballhead thats steady and has a small footprint. can handle my 5d+70-200is+ringflash just fine without slacking. You invested in carbon legs though, i m sure theres better stuff out there than my stuff

edit: yeh its the tripod afterall. i ll tell which ballhead it is when i get home -.-

055 is the tripod, not the head.. I am really partial to my Manfrotto 322rc2.. I love the ability to be very fluid with the movements.. However it is not a precise as a standard ballhead when you are trying to perfectly compose a photo.

I've got three manfroto tripods but my favourite head is the giotis ball head on my manfroto carbon legs, three point adjustment easily takes a 5d battery grip 2.8 70-200 and extender. I modified it to take manfroto quick plates so I can switch between them easily I'll add model number when I go down stairs :)

I shooot with a D90 and booster combo, and of my 4 lenses the biggest is the 300mm. The bf gave me his old gimbel head, as there is just no way I'd trust my ballhead (tripod and ballhead both Manfrotto, don't have it with me at the moment to tell you #s) with that lens or anything bigger. And he's got a 500mm, he's using a high-end Gitzo head for it!
