I had to wait until the voting was over to post this one ... ... Minimal editing, taken using my Olympus as a "pointillize" filter

Thanks Mae! I'll be posting a few more from this roll. Meantime, I fixed the "ticker" and I'm two-thirds of the way through a new roll...

For a recent shoot I loosely draped some translucent screening over the lens, to help cut down the light a little and add texture. Kinda sorta worked, need to play with it a little more.

Brian...I like how you made your own camera. Ubique mentioned to me a photo exhibit where someone made a camera out of a Toyota van to take "travel" pics...which leads me to ask you what model car do you have?...;-D

Anyways, left you a few comments...;-)

Thanks! It's a Saturn. But it leaks light worse than it leaks oil.

I did turn our barbecue grill into a pinhole camera once. My wife thought I was nuts.

Drive by shot of a horse farm. And this is usually what I do. Crop out the part of the image that I like.

And I just finished another roll today. Will probably develop toward the end of the week.

These are great -- have you already posted actual instructions for building one of these, or will you be seeking a patent? :-)

If the former, it would be a cool tutorial here, and the folks at Make magazine would probably be interested ...

While I was waiting to pick up Isaac after school I stacked up my linear and circular polarizers, along with a graduated neutral-density filter, and shot this handheld panorama (five frames, scaled to 10% in the stitching process), cropped slightly on the sides.

ApertureValue - F 8.00

I confess that I have no idea how to use the BBQ grill in my backyard either as a BBQ OR (more interestingly) a pinhole camera! What a funny idea...;-)

So, here's another one from my train window (does that count as an unusual filter?)

Brian, I'm just not as inventive as you are! ::pout::

Thanks for the encouraging words, General. I'm putting some more pictures of the camera together and plan to post them at Flickr. There's some interest there too. Not instructions, per se, but enough information (i.e. my "trade secrets") for someone who wants to branch out on their own.

I developed roll number two last night and will share a few more frames over the next few days...

This is really cool! Definitely publishable, I think any photo magazine would be interested. I like the way you are displaying the images. And also thank you for all the notes, it's great reading. Thanks you!

+1

Brian, I hope you will post more of these somewhere.

Might as well chuck in another one.

Thank you everyone who participated in this side challenge. I have appreciated your contributions, both photographic and commentary.

Thanks. I think most of the partygoers here have stumbled away (who, besides me, can resist an overlay side challenge?). So I'll drop a few more in the film thread later on. I'm also planning to post more and bigger pictures of the camera on Flickr.
