Here-here,

Some really nice stuff, and I got my first top 10, so I'm even happier :-).

I was worried before the start of voting that there would be 200 shots of railway lines, but it was neat to see the number of different shots and different points of view people found. Well done everyone...

That sucks....However, the light post seems to get in the way of the subject, "vanishishing point"....Moreover, a very stunning photo as whole and use of duotones.....nicely done. Best to you in the future challenges.

I would thank everyone for their votes and comments.
I should explain that the morning of this picture I had just driven through the thickest fog I have seen in years, yet the sun was blazing through and made it nigh impossible to avoid it looking like blow-out.
The sky was actually as it seems in the picture.I don't know if I could fit a gradient filter on my lens but the suggestion seems to be the only answer.

this was an alternative, any comments?

Thanks again everyone.

Well Done All....

I am delighted that I finally broke 6!!!
Still baffled by the voting though... 7 10's but 2 1's! :-(

Thanks everyone for your comments on my entry. I didn't expect to get too far with the large boarder around the photo but you just can't tell.
22nd Wooo Hoooo!

Hi Pearcer,

I scored you an 8 on this shot. The border worked well with the edge of your side mirror. I am surprised to see the number of low votes for this picture... 1's, 2's and 3's... go figure!

I had a lot of comments on my photo, all liked it, but were confused by the photo or didn't know why but they wanted to turn it upsidedown.
Here is the original.
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/244/thumb/96230.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/244/thumb/96230.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Here is a copy flipped and 180deg rotation.
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/23251/thumb/98558.jpg?0', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/23251/thumb/98558.jpg?0', '/') + 1) . '
I'm quite happy gained a personal best for the photo and for all those who commented that they had no idea what they were looking at here it is.
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/23251/thumb/97372.jpg?0', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/23251/thumb/97372.jpg?0', '/') + 1) . '
It was the underside of this pier. I could not work out why everyone felt they wanted to turn it upsidedown. Then it occured to me that the light was reflected off the water so the shadows were on the wrong side or so our brain thinks anyway!

Thanks for your comments, and well done to everyone the photos were great!
Bob
PS my wife did beat me again :( lol

Dito... Scored it a 7, I thought the border worked out perfect for this photo, the only drawback for me was the car in the reflection.

Congrats Bob

Thanks guy's, someone even said that it took them ages to work it out. All but 1 of the comments were very positive. This challenge was a beauty.
Thanks again to all that left a comment, I got a lot of great ideas from them.

thanks to all of you, those who entered, those who voted, and those who commented! well done!

thanks especially to those who helped me break past a little of my anal retentiveness. i am finally starting to see that there are not just an inside and an outside to a box, but that sometimes it is legit not to even be touching the box...

my shot was taken on an abandoned train bridge that once serviced the old Seaboard Coast Line (a predecessor to Amtrak). I've posted some outtakes for anyone interested. feel free to comment as you like.

congrats again on a great challenge!

I really liked this shot .. it was the curved aspect that I liked so much. The way it truly does take your eyes through the whole frame. IMO this should have done better. Too bad the fog was there .. it seems people would have liked it more without it.

Cheers,
Mike

What are those the PIXIE votes? The pump everyone up votes? Why doesn't someone have a right to vote a picture low without being labled?

Okay, as a newbie to DP Challenge, I have learned that some of you take this quite seriously. I'm here to challenge myself and force myself to think differently. I usually work with film photography, but find that this sight will help me think a little differently. Most did not like the What's Your Point? photo I did. The biggest criticism seemed to be the flash, which was done on purpose! Ah well, I will live.

Sorry, I didn't get it, & gave it very bad marks, (1), I guess it was too subtle for me. Looked like a mistake which most of us are trying to avoid. However, whenever I judge a photo, one of the things that I use
as a criteris, is "Would I hang that on my wall", which I probably wouldn't with that image. Admitedly that isn't the only criteria I use as I usually try to give a mark or 2 for humorous images when they are well done.
Don't let this put you off. A major thing here is to learn what will get good points, and what won't

Thanks Mike,
It appears you are correct about the fog, any comments on my alternative ?

This was my second entry, and I am more than pleased with the results I had... I really did better than the first time... and the comments are great...

Congrats to everyone, I saw fantastic photos in this challenge...

Sigur, I really enjoyed that pic of yours. I though it was refreshing and extremely original in its design, especially compared to the thousands of rails and other road shots.

How'd you do with the lighting?
