No doubt, DPC is dying. Been here almost 10 years, and it's obvious to me....

Then again, I'm dying, you're dying, the earth is dying along with the sun, the galaxy, and the universe as a whole. None of this overly likely to happen in the next few weeks. So why not enjoy it while we are all here?

Doubtful, that would mean he would actually have to visit and read the site.....

I don't think he has that much interest in it anymore.

The created of the site did read the forums! He sent a forum message out just this week did no one see it? Look at Langdon's last forum post. I'm suprised this is being said after he posted that discussion about improving the site very soon.

I participate and lurk on this site off and on. I like the site, the people, and the challenges. I like DPCprints as I purchase the majority of my prints for sale from there. I think it is very telling when thread after thread like this comes up and there is little to no SC or Site owner participation or comment.

Many other very popular forums that bring in the kind of cash that this one seems to be making have very vocal owners and moderators and that alone makes the site grow. People like to get answers.

Take this site for what it is. A place where photographers can share ideas and that's it. This site will make Langdon money until it finally collapses onto itself. Improvements will be minimal at best. I wouldn't be surprised if Langdon himself is even interested in photography anymore. I feel he quite possibly has moved on from that portion of his life, which is fine. If he was still interested I don't see any reason why he would not be posting in forums and in challenges about photography?

Quote from one of Langdon's blog's. "And some things that consistently don't make the cut:.........Photography"

That being said, he does seem to have his heart and mind on DPC and it's members. He also wrote:

"All that said, for my own edification next year, here's what's at the top of my priority list right now:

Write codes: Namely for dpchallenge.com, but also less for sf4tube.com and other pet projects."

I've got a question. What is DPC worth? Ballpark obviously. Just curious if anyone has a guess on that

a bazillion. or maybe $25 grand. it's like an old house. the property could be worth a lot, but the house is knockdown and needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.

Considering how fast they put another DPL together, Februarywas comparatively only nano-seconds ago.

Not sure what Langdon meant about being in a bad mood, possibly caused by others demands on his time. However, if he means us, I'd rather be thought of as a paying customer, than a drain on his time. However, if he wants to see something happen really fast, disrespecting paying customers is exactly the way to make it happen.

Perhaps not that popular to enter, but they sure post some high scores! The current DPC population must enjoy seeing them.

Poor guy, he seems a little stressed. Sounds like he's trying to juggle too many things at one time.

Ah. there's Langdon, who, with this journal entry sounds like an active mind at work wishing there were more hours in the day. And then this one (also quoted elsewhere in this thread) UTube project could keep one's head spinning with ideas for a looong time.

And some of us worry about challenges that are:

1. too easy,
2. too hard,
3. too predictable,
4. too mundane
5. too old/new
6. too Expert/not Expert
7. too (Oh, hell's bells, you get the idea--add your own "too")

We do/don't like the site because it's antiquated (!) or it's not antiquated enough (!)

Enjoy it for what it is, and squawk away.
'cause that's part of DPC too.

Any ideas why Kodak Gallery closed? I think people have less time to devote to their hobbies, and less money. They are trying to keep their jobs, if they have one, and spend little or no company time playing on the net.

Reading between the lines, Langdon's other half possibly is a bit tired of hobbies getting all the attention. This could be true of other members as well. There have been several members who have lost their mates due to their spending too much time here.

There is not too much wrong with dpc. Maybe too many subjective rules that are hard for folks like me to follow. SC, as knowledgeable as they are, sometimes have to argue among themselves whether or not to dq which means to me there are too many rules and editing categories. You only need two. Basic and Anything Goes. Enter in the wrong cat. ...sorry, too much editing...dq.

Anyway, this is a great place to look at good photography and there is a wonderful group of people here, most of them willing to help you learn, and they know a lot about almost anything. I plan to stay... and pay.

Kodak itself went bankrupt a few months ago, and is selling off assets.

Does SC run this site for free? If so this must be a real labor of love. Going through requests and DQ's on a weekly basis. I could never find that kind of time in my life.

Yes, and we all owe them our gratitude for that. Still, I do think they need a few more faces.

I have the time, the expertise, and the desire to help out, but I'm apparently not what they are looking for :-(

If they won't let you help then nobody on this site is qualified.

I want you on SC Bear.

I would almost consider it myself, but frankly I'm a bit too controversial and too busy.

I was going to start a separate thread re the site council but its seems appropriate to discuss it here as the issue has now been raised.

I was looking at the current site council of which only 6 appear to be active, surely those who have done nothing in the last 12 months should be removed/replaced by active members who are active, have a desire to be on the SC and have the time and experience to succeed.

I applied, but failed the drug screening. :(

Seriously, I'm going on a hunger strike until bear is put on the SC.

...You have one hour...

We get a free account and a little extra Portfolio space.

We haven't decided on the specific process for adding more SC members this time, but we are considering the matter ...
09/02/2012 02:15:50 PM · #99
The SC needs to agree the process in their own best interests, Jesus had the 12 apostles, Langdon needs his 12 too, but half of the current 12 have moved on.
09/02/2012 02:21:12 PM · #100
An odd number is needed to break ties in SC voting--7, Bear would be a good tie breaker.
