Like a cruel joke, I think this is intentional to trip us up in uploading :)

I original read the simile one as smile and shot for it lol only for my Gf to say you do know it's simile oops hehe, guess I'd seen the smile suggestion then quick glance of front page a d put 2+2 together and got 5 lol

For me the simile challenge will be like a wild animals challenge where all the photos turn out to be taxidermy. Not even in the zoo: dead and stuffed.

A simile is a poetic device, which means it must be vivid and even surprising. "Happy as a clam," for example, is a dead simile. It is a cliche.

Extra points to people who come up with new similes, by which I mean similes that are still alive, still roaming wild through the forests of the imagination (that last bit is an example of a dead metaphor).

Unless of course your photo IS of a stuffed animal. Then a dead simile might be justified.

But I agree, I want to see some new similes.

I like your use of the word "like" in speaking about similes. Nicely done! :)

Dead Stuffed

I'm afraid I'm on track to use an old simille this time ... sigh ...

Yes, but there's always something a little twisted about your photos that I enjoy. Like a dead duck in a bathtub...

Off-topic: when I start my garage band, we will be called the "Dead Metaphors".

On-topic: I've been working like a dog and won't have time to think of any ideas for this challenge.

My simile is trite and there's nothing even remotely creative about my image. Can I enter anyway?

Actually, that's a good recipe for a high finish, if the technicals are good :-)

I agree with bear. It's the trite similes that will score well. True similes will confuse the voters and be considered shoehorns.

Blah, I haven't been on here for ages.

Just submitted an entry for this.

Confused though... like if we use, for example "as proud as a peacock", would we show a peacock in the image, or something that represents the pride of a peacock?

I'll be treating both examples equally.

You need to remove the references to your entry immediately please. It violates the anonymity aspect of voting.

I wouldn't worry about it... Looks to me as though the entry will be out of the running for other reasons anyway. Could be wrong of course. ;)

mshonak - Welcome to DPC, don't worry about this too much, keep entering and you'll get the hang of things.

Cheers,
