Juliet: The Queen will not attend tonight’s closing ceremony, as Buckingham Palace said there was no official role for a Head of State in the ceremony

I would have to say the closing ceremony was a bit of a let down.

That's 'cause you weren't privy to the sideline commentary of two Brits! LOL!

Juliet. Scorpion? Are you frickin' kidding me?

I can't say that since I did not watch them.

The closing ceremony was pretty good, not as good as the opening ceremony but that was exceptional.

All in it's been a great Olympics and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

The coverage by the BBC was outstanding with its 24 dedicated High Definition channels you could pick what you wanted to watch live.

Looking forward to Rio in 2016

I'm going crazy...I dvr'd the whole closing ceremony. They keep saying The Who will perform, but I've been through it 5 times scanning and moving through it 30 seconds at time...watching parts. I've seen everyone in the world EXCEPT the who.

I was close to the end, they said first the protocol, then the Who. There's some young band after the protocol, but no who!

Ah, I just heard the very end of my recording, said they'd be back in an hour with the closing "party" featuring The Who. Boo...missed it on my DVR.

Is it online anywhere?

Bad form, NBC!

From memory (because I only half-watch these things), there was some young whippersnapper of a singer (whom I'd never heard of) singing 'Pinball Wizard' (after °Freedom° from George Michael), but later on Entwhistle and Daltrey were definitely on , "See me, Feel Me..."

ETA_ actually, we haven't deleted the whole thing from our HDD, so I'll check.
Yeah, The Who are right at the end after the torches are lowered and extinguished. Playlist

NBC aired it last night just before the replayed the closing. I did tape it. If you can't find it online, I'll burn it for you.

I have to say I thought London did a fantastic job across the board, combined with the great bbc coverage across all the extra HD channels ... I've watched more tv in the last 2 weeks than I have for the rest of the year :) .... serious withdrawal now though!

I was lucky enough to get to a few events and the atmosphere from the crowds was outstanding, all athletes were supported and cheered regardless of nationality ... here's a couple of pics :)

I wish ;) We were just 17 rows back from the front though so with the 100-400 I could get some close shots :)

You were lucky to get in with it - I have been doing security (Army, not G4S!) for the whole games and there are three pages of policy banning 'big' lenses for anyone without press accreditation. I was practically on the field of play for a couple of things but couldn't take in my 50D and 120-400... Boo!

Well done though - it's important to stick it to 'the man'!

I had no problems at Eton, the Olympic park or the o2 arena ... the restrictions said 30cm (which I printed in case I was challenged) and I locked the lens at 100mm which made it less than 30cm .... I'd have come unstuck with that if someone was challenging that rule and knew how to unlock the 100-400!!

I did however go to Victoria park to watch the hockey bronze match and they wouldn't let me in with the lens!! I only had it as I was going to an olympic event later ... their web site said nothing about restrictions, which I showed them and they compromised by making me hand over my batteries! The stupid thing is because they searched the bag before going through the metal detection I bypassed that as the security guard took me to the office to hand my batteries in!!

Clever...

Unfortunately since I was responsible for implementing security (at the Royal Artillery Barracks), I couldn't really justify tinkering with the rules! Damn it. Not that the shooting was that visually exciting anyway.

I was thinking about heading down to the Thames Barrier one morning though (just down the road from here)to assuage my lack of shooting. Any other top London based ideas?

Just to prove I really was there (on the right from your perspective!)

A gen-u-whine olympic torch... they wouldn't let us relight it!

I sat down to lunch a while back with one of the Reuters photographers based here in Seattle (he's on the cover of the Thinktank Photo brochures). He described his typical day at work locally as well as some of the events he travels to and I told him I would kill for his job. He said he here's that all the time, and he watches his back, lol!
