Most of my lenses are Sigma. Can't afford the L series. Anyway, they work fine with my seriously outdated 10d. I'm looking to upgrade obviously and I'm wondering if anyone had issues with compatibility primarily with the 7D or 60D. These lenses were mostly purchased between '03 and '05. I'd hate to spend serious money on a new camera and not be able to use my lenses. Also wondering how long I'm going to have to wait for a newer model to be announced. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have my original Sigma 12-24 that I bought when I got my 10D. I've used it with a 1DmkII and my 5dmkII without problem.

Sigma did have some issues with the chips in their lenses not being compatible with "newer" Canon cameras and customers were forced to send their lenses in to be "rechipped", but I believe that was in the late 1990's and has long been resolved.

If they worked with the 10D, they should work with the 60D. I upgraded to the 60D from the XTi and my Sigma and Tamron lenses worked just fine.

I have one Sigma lens that works fine with my 50D. Actually it needs to be repaired right now, but that has nothing to do with compatibility.

I do think that the re-chipping disaster seems to be a thing of the past. For lenses purchased as early as yours, I'd do 'net searches specifically for problems with the lens/camera combination you're thinking about. You can also physically check the lenses on a camera at a local store, if one is available.

Thanks all, it will be awhile before I can make the new purchase. Life tends to get in the way of things sometimes, hence why I have a 9 year old dslr.

Can I quickly ask you why, with no ef-s glass, you're not considering a used 5D classic instead? The value of those things is now really great, and frankly, unless you need fast shooting rates, more than 3 fps, then I would say you should seriously consider buying a used 5D instead of either of the choices you are currently looking at.

I bought a used 5D a while back, and it's been so wonderful it caused me to return to challenges... Mind you, my other body is a 50D, so it's not like I have an old crop body (well, I do, several of them actually, going back to the D60), and yet the quality difference in having a full-frame body is just amazing! Especially with that 12-24... :)

the sigma 50mm 1.4 is an awesome lens, almost as good as the 50 1.2 L but for a third the price

To quote a rep from Sigma, "Sigma Has Never ReChipped a lens, that is a internet myth. In 2005 our DG and DC lenses incorporated ReWriteable Firmware enabling us to correct anything that might arise from manufacturers constant changes in camera software and hardware."
I have a 28-200mm that is having issues throwing Error 99 on my 20D and 01 on a 40D (communication error between lens & camera). It's a glitch and will be sent in for service, as it's a great walk-around lens.

I'm sure I could get a good deal. But at this point, I want a new camera. Yes those don't have full frame sensors but I have always had to deal with the crop so for me it isn't a deal breaker.
