Do we take a photo of the title of the worst photo, or the challenge theme, that the photo was in....and is this just a F/s or what???

I haven't a clue what is wanted in this challenge.

Just do something crap.

I think you're supposed to try to mimic one of the photos, but make it look good. I don't think the challenge for the original photo matters. At least, that's my take.

its like a take two with someone else's photo.

I think this page shows the lowest rated photos to take your inspiration from.

//www.dpchallenge.com/photo_browse.php?view=lowestrated

Pick one and make it better.

Got a puppy? Here's a lousy very low-scoring picture from 2003 called "Puppy's Nose":

Using YOUR puppy for a model, shoot a better-composed, better focused, better-everything shot of HIS nose/face and submit it.

That's what the challenge is about, I think.

LOL I'm having fun seeing how many of my entries are in the bottom 1000! :-)
07/16/2012 11:02:32 AM · #11
I don't think this one can be improved. It is perfect, as is, so there really are only 999 pictures to chose from.

you know, a lot of these would have been pretty good, but got a low score just because they were DNMC,

like

Title: 1

in the Team Sports Action challenge

actually, it is pretty funny too me to see some of these with not even the slightest attempt to even shoehorn them...

p.s. and i just saw this one

[yes there is really a photo there... click it)

with "Print Available"... i'm laughing so hard i'm crying!

I think whatever we do, we should include a link in the comments to the image we used to create our piece. If we just edited theirs, used it as inspiration, or whatever. This way we can all do a direct comparison to help with scoring? Otherwise I am as lost as all of you...

I haven't browsed them all, but I was a bit surprised to find that I barely squeezed into the bottom 250 ...

Or just use their original title and the word reloaded or II or something so voters can easily query the original

Am I alone that the concept of the challenge seems a little arrogant?
07/16/2012 12:26:08 PM · #17
Well try to take this in the spirit it us offered... Not to poke fun at those with low scores, but to take an existing concept and improve upon it.

It wouldn't seem so much so if the next challenge is an homage to the Top 1000 (minimal editing please).

That woulndt be a bad idea! Although if its minimal editing, and a lot of the top 1000 have a lot of editing especially the expert editing photos, then why should it be so?

Like others have said, it's a shame the original and an attempt to improve can't be seen side by side during voting. There is really no difference between voting in this challenge and a free study. Once the results are calculated we can see the inspiration for entries. At a minimum we should link the inspirational image to the photographers comment section. But this doesn't change that it's being judged like a free study.

A. Hurts my feelings that I have one of the 1000 at 3.1754.

B. I could do an homage to my own image.

C. Do I mock the effort and the DNMC opinion? If so, how?

D. Do I try to improve on the photo, but wouldn't that be thinking upside down.

E. This challenge is confusing to me.

so an "homage diptych"? that sounds like a better idea to me, too.

Amateur.
Mine's at 2.25.
Do I tell you guys off a second time? Would it do better now that you're a little more hardened? Instead of flipping off the pinball machine, I should directly look into the camera so there's no ambiguity. I'll throw a nice border on there like charliebaker does and it should be blue.

How about each entry lists the image ID# (found in the url when viewing the image) for the chosen image in the title.

Then voters can look up the image by entering //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID= with the image ID attached at the end on a second window.

Not sure if there is an easier way, but I think this would work.

Take this one for example from brown ribbon deja vu II

And my legendary self-portrait-as-raindrop didn't make the bottom 1000... LOL... I'm kind of bummed at that.
