I'm going to preface this post with this: the only reason I started participating in dpchallenge again is to destroy ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' jovan91 in challenges. the only reason jovan started participating actively again is to beat the crap out of ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' cujee, another buddy of ours. Jovan figured he had me beat with his last ribbon (which was a second place vs. my third place), until i sliiiiiiiiiid up from under his crusty grip with my second place today. So now I have two ribbons vs. his 1.

Now here is the dilemma that we've been debating. He figured he has another 18ish challenges or so to win another ribbon before I can be crowned victor, because it took me 52 challenges to get my second ribbon (he's at 34 right now). My problem with this is: I took a giant break from photography for 3 years, while he continued practicing during that time. I don't think there was any year where he didn't enter anything, and when he wasn't entering things, he was shooting on the side. His counterargument is: I started earlier than him. Which is true also. I started dpc a little bit before him, but I started photography itself much earlier.

We were puzzling over this when he suggested I just ask the dpc community. So I am doing so:

What would be the best way for us to decide who is better at dpchallenge (I purposefully didn't say better at photography because I'm certain we would have got a lot of answers for that which I am nottt interested in hearing). Should we just take the 2012 season and use that as a reference? would this be fair? does anyone want to comment on how much worse ' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/31.gif', '/') + 1) . ' cujee is compared to the two of us?

we also fully welcome this format: just people posting in this thread going "yup, jovan's better" or "yup, lanndon's better", and then just tallying up these selections.

Violence is the solution to many of life's problem, this one is no different. Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably a pussy.

Obviously, since you didn't consult us earlier, the past doesn't count. The ribbons don't count.

It's only from now on that counts.

How could you possibly think that they could?

In the Unofficial Points & Ribbon Race Lanndon's ahead of Jovan by quite a distance, 89th vs 139th. That's what I'd use for judging this. Whoever's highest at the end of the year, wins.

Here's the thread for it.

Nice way to stay neutral. If you agreed, I was going to say that you were, by far, superior to the other two. If you disagreed, then I was going to say that you suck.

Now I sit here, with my head tipped to one side, pondering my next move...

does this ranking consider volume? jovan and I look at our average score as well; we frown on entering dozens of images just to have a few do well and the rest bring down your average.

That's it!! Jovan is SO much better! At least Jovan knows that I have a dog. He thinks that Max is the most photogenic dog around.

Jovan so wins.

Sorry.

You blew it.

Competition over. :P

points and ribbons race only counts top 10s, nothing else.

No, it only counts top-10 images. The closer you are to 1st, the more points you get.

If you're looking for some specific metric, why don't you do something based on the percentile finish of your images for the year and then weight it for the number of entries?

this could be a good way of doing things.

No we need to look back, and the fact is that I'm only at 34 challenge entries while lanndon is at 52. Additionally bear music is just plain wrong on this one and I totaly agree with vawendy!
