Be careful what you wish for. Now I have to come up with something, and I have no idea where to even start.

Do we get a little bit of technique help so that we can fully convey your style appropriately. Looking at some of your images its really hard to tell how you were able to pull of the brilliance without using Expert Editing rule sets :)

I suspect we need to build a customized camera to generate such creations - sure baffles me how he created some of these amazing photographic masterpieces in Basic!

I really would like a manifesto. Screw sharing the techniques, I want to know what motivates him.

hehe.. And in his case, he REALLY means 'put something together' ;).

I really suppose I'll try to do something for this, it's a very good topic.

I then will not look further on this thread, the fun is in the find, not the cheat sheet. I'll read it post challenge.

I already submitted an image for this, so no cheat sheet for me.

I had an image all ready to submit, until I remembered I'd taken it two weeks ago ... :-(

Now to see if I can duplicate it ... :-)

Hah ... close enough for me! Maybe I'll read the cheat sheet after the voting is over (to see what I did wrong?) ...

Here's a study of his style for those interested.

I've tried to grab shots of his that represent the 'feel' I associate with his work. I also tried to grab shots that I think could score well in this challenge.

(Plus a few gems that just had to be here!)
(I don't think I consider these his 'style', but they are very fun!)

Consistencies that I have noticed:
-heavy use of grain
-low key images are most common
-textures, brush strokes, and odd overlays are often used to great effect
-repeated themes of distorted and or indistinct figures, cut-out type images, along with a few images of hands
-black and white usually isn't - often they are naturally devoid of color, but have a color cast, cross-processed look, or a spot of color as accent in the image
-never uses borders
-very much is a master of the unfinished image - a story is there, and waiting to be finished with your imagination.

Don't tell anyone Yan. No one needs to know. Mystery is always far more fulfilling than explanation.

+1.

I think I know, but I'm not giving it away either.

ETA: Screw the how anyway - the important question is why?

You can include any texture you'd like. You just have to do it when you're taking the photo. ;)

I think the question was sincere.
