Then you might want to check out worth1000.com, where I recently joined up so I can improve my PS skills. Holy liftin. Although you can use stock images in your entries, there is a much, much shorter timeframe for both submitting and voting - like, 48 hours! Photochop is strongly encouraged.

They also have a purely photographic section of the site structured very like DPC - ie have a week to submit an image you've shot, though no time constraints in terms of shooting. And a week to vote. Similar pping rulesets too, for example Beginner is essentially our Basic ruleset. Not surprisingly of the 4 contests I've entered so far, my highest score is currently in the Photo section. My Photoshop FX entries still have a long way to go.

Also once you've won x # of ribbons in a category, you're no longer eligible to compete in it. Anyway I'm still very new there so can't provide all the details, but thought some here might enjoy it.

Here's your link Susan worth 1000

It looks like a place worth exploring. Thanks for sharing it!

how long before Gyaban would become ineligible, or did he already?

Thanks for sharing - there is some fantastic photoshop magic there. Nice to look at but not something I would ever imagine being able to attempt.

LOL! Good question. In all honesty I don't know, though if those rules about eligibility applied here, he'd only be able to compete in Expert and nothing else. I'm starting at Beginner in both FX and Photography, even though I can probably participate in Advanced there, too. It's a little more complex than DPC in terms of how it's set up.

I used to submit to the photo contests at Worth years ago, long before I joined DPC. I won several competitions there but gave up on it for some reason.

I actually started at W1K and found DPC through a mention in a forum post someone made over there. DPC was more what I was looking for, since I'm more interested in photography than digital creations (They do have some photo contests, but it is not the main point of the site). I still enjoy popping over there occasionally to see what people have created.

That's why I found and went there in the first place, the tutorials are very well written. So in my case I'm going backwards from what Spiffy and Karen did.

Another feature of the site - though no Update button (at least none that I've seen yet) there is a histo as voting progresses and you can see exactly where you're currently positioned in a challenge. Last I looked I was 31/123 in a photo contest, and 18/22 in an FX contest.

I have an account there but never submitted anything... I'm sure it can become a drug if I begin to join challenges. I don't think I have time enough for DPC, Worth1000 and for my first who's going to arrive in August ;)

But yes, it's an amazing site!

You will certainly have no time at all once your first arrives - congrats!!!

That was where i basically learnt how to photoshop back in 2006/7 (same username). Excellent way to waste *cough* spend time learning the tricks within Photoshop - colour matching is one i would never have known if i hadnt have done one particular challenge which produced this festive take on the mona lisa:

X-mas Mona Lisa

May start doing it again when I have some time - it is always interesting to see what you can acheive... thanks for the reminder

I am not good at photoshop, and don't ever "score well" here- and admittedly

I am not one of these "on a bunch of contest site folks-

but I now realize how photography driven our site is.

This is a peephole into how "expert" our site could get.

still complaining about a few expert challenges per month- ha!

I would hope that our site makes little tweaks and does not go as radically

"modern flashy website casino contest style " as this site.

+"a lot" Good luck finding time to do those really intersting shots with the baby in tow.
First little bit you'll hibernate with them (not quite as much in nice weather, but you likely won't want to risk exposing them to anything hazardous before they have a built-up immune system), from about 4 months to 6 months you'll think "i can get out and about with them in tow, they're complacent", then the solid food routine will set in and you'll wonder how you have enough time to do anything anymore.
I haven't made it past this stage yet so i'm not sure what comes after, but i know that putting lots of time into photography only will happen if you're willing to lose sleep over it and even then you can't get very far away from the house at this stage without disrupting their routine and ending up with a very cranky baby.

WELCOME TO PARENTHOOD!!

It really is worth it though, you won't even mind the commandeering of your time, Especially when they start responding and socializing with you in their way :)

I already edit my images at night! O.O

LOL!

I will tell you what are my impressions as soon as I can see him in person ;)

PS. snaffles I hate you! I'm editing an entry for a Worth1000 challenge! :D

Thanks snaffles are you the same name over there ?

I like this in the rules "we do not permit drama of any kind. We prefer a calm, relaxing atmosphere to compete and have fun in"

LOL @ alexkc...Alex, no fear, I'm hardly serious PhotoChop competition yet, though my one entry in Photography so far did OK, 5.6ish...and Tiny, yes, I'm also snaffles over there :-)

And yes from what I've seen so far it is relatively drama-free!

Why isn't this in the Web Site Suggestions section? ;-)

Also note that there's a new side-challenge-type thread for "digital art" you can post in ...

That site looks great!! Like DPC only with less photoshopping involved..

LOL!!! Yeah, way less PhotoShopping and way more PhotoChopping :-)

And I just got hooked up with a PS mentor whose brain I will be able to pick over the course over the next 2 weeks, maybe I'll actually place higher than the bottom 10% in the PC section.
