Here's the shot with Bailey's Beads (the sun streaming through the mountains and craters of the moon's surface) and a close-up:

Moment of annularity.

One of the most interesting things was the odd shift in the color of the sky opposite the sun when the eclipse was near maximum ' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/1031/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1016681.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/0-4999/1031/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1016681.jpg', '/') + 1) . I made a solar filter from some high-density* graphic arts film, clipped to a discarded CD which was held to my lens hood with some tacky adhesive putty.

This other guy was there with a big zoom lens and a fancy filter set, but his ND filters weren't dense enough -- he was able to slip an extra piece of the film I was using into his filter-holder and get to a reasonable exposure.

I'm still working on a time-lapse of the eclipse ...

*The film has a density near 4.0 on a logarithmic scale, meaning it allows about 1/10,000th of the light through.

I finally got around to creating a time-lapse animation ... (unfortunately) I experiemented with some different exposures, so the color is a bit uneven, but right now I'm too tired/lazy to correct all those frames; however, I'd appreciate any opinions about whether I should do so before creating an AVI/movie version, and any other comments ...
