I dont usually post anything personal out here, but I just had to share this.

My daughter and I have started our own little Photo Friday project. We have been running it since easter, so we are in our 6th week so far. She is three and so I have cut my teeth on toddler photography for the past two years. Now she is starting to get interested in posing and showing off for the camera. She always asks to see the pictures and she has started asking to take pictures of me. I have let her try for the past three weeks just handing her my camera putting the strap around her neck and just showing her the shutter button. She has been having fun looking at her results. I let her take pictures of me so I can keep taking shots of her.

Well today, she takes a shot of me that was just fantastic that I had to share. I am very proud of her and I just enjoy spending this little bit of time with her. My love for photography happened because my dad used to take lots of pictures of me when I was younger. I remember those times. I have an old shot laying around of me from 1973 when I was around 3 years old eating Jello next to a coffee table with a lamp on it and a copy of his book about lighting laying there on the table. I just hope my daughter will have those great memories of taking pictures with her dad.

Anyway, here's the shot she took...

I did the PP... because hey, though she has mastered taking pictures better than I can, I still got her beat on how to use Photoshop.

If you want to share any family stories about photography with your kids, feel free to add on to this post.

awesome. My daughter is seven and loves photography. She is my model and assistant. the dslr is still a tad heavy for her but she has my old point and shoot and just takes pictures of all kinds of stuff. I love downloading her pictures to see wear she wandered with it.

Hey that's great for both of you. I remember when my Dad would let me run around in the woods with his camera...I took a lot of terrible pictures of butterflies and wasted a lot of film, but I thought I was awesome. :D

Great stuff, Ed! And that is a terrific shot! I think you are creating fantastic memories for both you and your daughter. My dad was the type that forced me to do many things I had no interest in, which led me to not want to even nudge my older kids into being involved in anything I am doing, but that was not the way to go either, so I do try to get Riley involved and he loves it. He may not always love it, but when he appears interested, we shoot together and have a blast.

Thanks for taking the time to drop a note in return.

@mike - So great that you have such a cooperative assistant. I hope that my daughter maintains the interest as she gets older. Just something fun to share.

@Amy - Fun times. I bet your dad enjoyed every minute... He did keep buying you film after all!!

@Art - You have such great montages of Riley at work along with the results. He is going to love having that stuff when he is older, I am sure. He just looks so intent at studying the world! A real lover of the details by the looks of things. It's good that you made the decision just to support his interest rather than push him too much. It just shows him you are interested in him and what he is all about! That's all you can do really, just share in the times!

We got my granddaughter a fisher price camera for Easter. So far, she seems most interested in taking self portraits. LOL. I'll post some tomorrow.

That would be great Kelli... I think that camera is going to be under the Christmas tree for my daughter this year.

That is wonderful.

I sort of fell off the photography wagon, snapshooting aside, shortly after having my son so he didn't really "grow up" around photography. I put grow up in quotes because he's only a few months short of 4 years old. However, it must run in his blood; he takes air pictures, so to speak. He raises his finger to his face and moves his fingers as if had clicked a shutter button, sound effects included. It's adorable. We now have a P%S camera I managed to break the second day of having it and he uses it as a toy, pretending it actually works. Gotta start somewhere, I guess.

I enjoyed seeing all these photos. My son is 6, he has been using my old P & S, I need a new one!!

At the moment, he thinks it's funny to take butt shots of anyone, he is at the perfect height to do so. It's good to take photos from that angle up, so there have been some interesting results. :-)

Unfortunately she does not live with me and we only see her and her sister for 1 weekend in 2 so she has decided not to join up here for a while, but I WILL get her on here and participating ASAP ;)

My younger daughter, 15, is taking a photography class in high school, and she seems to have a good eye. She and I have gone on a few weekend photography excursions. However, while I am now full digital, she is old school -- shooting film exclusively with no interest in going digital. My older daughter, 21, is getting into photography. I got her to enter some challenges after a recent visit home (' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21_F.gif', '/') + 1) . ' Rabies). She did pretty well in the five challenge she entered. Later this month she and I will spend a week in Maine with my dad, and we will take lots of pictures. I am hoping to get her to enter a few more challenges.

It's just great to hear how photography has become such a family hobbie (That may not be the right word for it) and that it can be used to bring family members closer. Very positive!!!
