That'll learn 'em!

That is how it works now.

Actually, a self DQ disappears.

The self dq doesn't show in your portfolio, but the score does not disappear from your overall (at least the last time I self dq'd it didn't and I queried it at the time).

Scores don't average into your overall until the challenge is over though.

Yes, that's true now in 2012, but the last time I DQ'd the average was updating real time. This was about 18 mths ago. I also noticed that a recent blue ribbon winner who was DQ'd did not have his score scrubbed from his average. He had only entered 2 challenges at the time, the blue ribbon which was DQ'd and another that had a much lower score. His average still shows 6.6, which would indicate that the DQ scores are not removed from the overall average.

All DQ's are not equal, that is certain from this thread.

In a stroke of luck, I received an HM, 5th place, and in a fateful turn, I went to submit the original, only to realize that I had flipped the original in the viewing program on the computer and it had saved sideways. Thus I had not saved an original in its unedited form per the rules.

two questions arise- if I somehow delete my original by mistake during the challenge- ethically, must I self DQ a shot getting 4.5 average because I couldn't supply an original? I would say no way- I have only had to provide an original once! so it would be lunacy. and it wouldn't be unethical.

In criminal law there are two types of crimes.

malum in se vs. malum prohibitum.

maybe there should be levels of DQ here,

but change is hated, perhaps for ego's sake, especially concerning rules of DPC- and let me just say, I understand why- two many cooks, too many chiefs, etc. can't go switching up every time someone complains.

We would have to look at the particular situation ... don't lawyers recommend against commenting on hypotheticals where a similar actual case could arise and they might represent either side (or sit in judgement)?

Just curious, has anyone read the rules page recently? I don't see a reference to it in this forum thread.
