Anyone experienced the following problem with their Canon 7D?

Last week I turned the power on switch to the on position and I got a flashing "dead" battery icon on the top display and no other icons illuminated and the camera was essentially dead.

I figured the battery needed charging so I fully charged it, put it back in and got the flashing icon again with all other icons off.

So not having a spare battery and thinking maybe the battery was defective, I bought a new battery. Fully charged the new battery and tried again with the same results.

Pulled both camera batteries and the memory card and left it overnight. Put a battery in the next morning and the same results.

I would try to clean the battery contacts but they're extremely difficult to reach.

Anyone have another suggestion (No, I'm not getting a Nikon!)

I've seen this problem posted on line frequently enough. You're going to have to send it to Canon for repair. It's either a loose connection on the power supply connector, the battery circuit board, or a misaligned shutter. Are you getting err40? That's an issue with the camera not getting proper power which again is caused by at least two of the problems mentioned above.
