This SC has now started- posting thread is here.

So, the premise of this side challenge is shooting at the same focal length throughout the entire duration. If you have a prime, GREAT! If you don't, that's still great. Just put a piece of tape over the zoom barrel so you can't adjust it, or use the widest or most tele settings on your zoom for all your shots.
The idea is to both improve your sense/feel of a given focal length, as well as to further acclimate yourself to a given piece of equipment. If you've got a dusty lens, now is the time to bust it out.

Rules- You will choose your focal length at the beginning of the challenge and stick to it throughout. To make this rule hold fast, there should be no cropping in this challenge either. Beyond that, all editing is fine, unless you wanted to further limit yourself, which is up to you (just tell us what your self-imposed limitations are).

I'm aiming to have this take place from May 5th until June 5th, as I'll be gone on vacation for a bit here. I'll begin the posting thread as the start grows close, and add participants here as I see you join (though I'll be gone for a bit and will update once I get back, so if you're not on there, it's just me being on vacation!).

Any takers?
Just go ahead and post here with your focal length and anything else and I'll consider you signed up.

I've got a new 50mm prime, not used yet, so maybe I'll take this opportunity to get acquainted with it.

I will do the 50. And since I have this wildlife all around me I think I will do 300 also.

Added!

Lots of nifty fifties so far.

Marion- make sure to add your new lens to your profile. Always one of the fun parts about new equipment :)

Why not also limit it to being shot wide open? I have several primes. I'll figure out whether I want to use the 85MM, 200MM, or 400MM but I'll throw some in.

Edit to add, that double fisting just seems wrong to put in this thread....

I always used the double fisting to refer to having two drinks, one in each hand, too much perhaps of a good thing ;0

I'll update as you decide. Glad to have you, Matt!

Moi. Don't know what lens yet since I don't know what camera I am using. So I am going to cheat - just telling you now. I'll use the 50mm with one camera and the 45 if I ever get the other camera :/

Like I need an excuse to break out the Canon 300mm f/4...LOL. I'm in!

colorcarnival- Still waiting on the delivery of that body!? What a bummer :( definitely feel for you on that.

Also, Matto, that 85 is a fun lens to play with. I love it on my dx, but also on my F100. The AF is practically as fast as the AFS, I think, but you can't toggle the two as fast.

Glad to have you aboard Christopher! Nice to see another tele participant!

Count me in, Fuji 35mm.
04/20/2012 08:37:35 AM · #14
My first thought was this is a perfect chance to get some use out of my 135. Then I remembered I am currently without a camera body. :(

Then I remembered my point and shoot backup with it's fixed 20mm (2x crop factor) lens, so I'll use that one.
These will be straight from the camera due to the fact that I am in between residences and so I don't have access
to my photo editing computer, and at the beginning at least I will shoot b/w.

I don't get out to shoot as much as I would like, but I'm in @ 90mm.

I saw that you had picked up an XPRO, jagar. Curious to see what comes out of that one- seems custom built for your uses.

Got everybody else added.

And no worries nova, I might be in the same boat for a bit here as well, posting straight from camera.

We'll start posting May 5th. I would have made it the 1st, but I'll be on vacation or just getting back at that point.

I'd like to join. I'll shoot with my 10-22mm but wide open at 10mm. Should be fun, I love that lens.

I'm in with my 100mm 2.8 macro...

I should have everybody added that has responded so far. There's still a few days to jump in before posting starts on the 5th!
