I took about 20 pics of this guy before he ran off. This is a crop, which I thought looked nice since it shows off the details. What do y'all think?(and I know there's a post like this every day, so I appreciate your time)

Good lookin' anole! Looks a bit like a brown anole, but a little more yellow around the eye than I'm used to - a little more tropical than what we've usually got in central Florida. Is this in south Florida?

On the lizard itself, I like the framing. I should say I'm more comfortable talking about wildlife than I am of critiquing photography (I'm new at this). The background is the trick here. Especially with the brown anoles (or this species), brown and light mottled backgrounds just don't stand out too well with the brown pigment of the subject. With the green anoles, I try to get brown backgrounds and with brown anoles, I try to get green backgrounds - something different, something to make the color stand out, something like that. In this case, it would've been a godsend if there'd been something yellow in the background to really draw out that fabulous pigment around the eye. Perhaps there's something you can do in editing to darken the background a little bit? That might make the lizard stand out more? Give the photograph more than just brown... Play with the contast a little, perhaps?

Anyhow, just a few shots from a guy in Sorrento who is sad he couldn't get photos of this particular anole! Pretty little bugger.

- and I have, by the way, posted my share of anole shots!

Ah, good point about the background, I didn't think of that!

As for the anole, I don't know what it is, but there must be a family of them around the house because we have been seeing them for a few years. Although until I took this picture, I didn't realize how colorful they are up close.

Oh, and this is north florida... Jacksonville.

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated!

Jacksonville, eh? Well, I guess it is probably just a brown anole. Such diversity in those fellows. And that really is a fantastic one. We don't see much of the yellow down here! In south Florida, they've got tons of anole species floating around. Exotic imports gone awry.

Watch for fencelines and wood like this - try to catch another one of these and frame with the contrasting background. In another thread, I had a similar macro shot. It was recommended that I have a little more depth of field - not quite as narrowly focused. Looking back, I think suemack and company were right on the money. Mine was a green anole with a blue eyerim. Yours is brown with yellow. Catch back a bit on the depth of field and work on the background. Odds are you've got quite a few brown anoles that have similar yellow patterns in the same area. It really is beautiful! And anoles will often stay relatively put for you to position closely. They're cautious, but a little daring on occassion (I've got one who lives on the front patio that actually lets me pet him!).

Sorry for being such a lizard-loser, but I get excited! I do hope you shoot more of these and post them!
