| I've been laughing at my score but I guess I wouldn't have rated it any better myself. Really need to find a proper camera soon. The I-Phone isn't friendly to available light.. Still enjoy taking pictures anyway. |

Why couldn't voting just stop around 35 votes? It was my peak. 5.8

I feel the same way. I think I might of went a little to creative. Stuck at 5.8 for around 80 votes and then last 20-25 drop me. Just a little longer...we can hold out. |

I know. I think that's what I did, too much creativity (well, not really... just too different, I guess). Not that anyone can tell which is mine. I don't think anyone has pinpointed my style yet... :)
I like to keep em thinking. Haha.
Seriously though... not much longer... MAYBE it will be a new PB... doesn't have to go up by much for that to happen.

I'm finding this challenge quite difficult to comment on. Most of my comments aren't very helpful... but I'm becoming at a loss of words the more comments I make. Time to take a break, maybe.

Isn't this 'boring challenge' actually what makes it challenging?
So many photos of piles of things. A few folks have really tried to make a bunch of similar objects all gathered in a group look very interesting.
Unfortunately, I see more than the usual number of images that don't see to have even a passing connection to 'Collections'.
I am not sure how to vote on an amazing image that should be entered in a Free Study.

Exactly. I relish trying to turn the mundane into something interesting. I've been here a month, and it seems the most people like some form of free study'esque type challenge.
Corners - Free Study with something in the corner
Drugs - Free Study with appropriate title
Close Your Eyes - Free Study with less than perfect setup.
Double Take - Free Study with two of anything in photo.
Personally, I love the restrictive challenges. That's when you really have to think about everything. How do you make your photo different from everyone else's? I think this is where real creativity kicks in, but that's just my opinion.
Whenever I see people complaining about a challenge being boring, I just assume it's their lack of creativity holding them back, again, only my opinion.

i like some of your points about "restrictive" challenges being a bit more interesting, but i think the site tries to select a range of topics so everyone has a chance to expand their skills. also, if the change was "mountain" or "ocean" some people would be unable to enter many because of where they live. i personally like "rules" |

Fair enough on the mountain or ocean comment, and it could be carried to a swath of other topics, but collections or keys or .... can be done by everyone. It's just in my month here, I'm getting the feeling if people can't free study a challenge, they don't like it so much. It's almost viewed as an inhibitor rather than a motivator to be creative. The proof is in the constant belly-aching on the forums prior to the voting period. I saw Keys and thought bricks; it failed but I thought it was somewhat creative. I'm trying to approach every challenge in the same manner, along with improving my actual photography skills. Maybe I should spend less time here, I don't know. All I do know, is my wife would agree with the last sentence.

[ edit ] I have to stop responding to comments within these scoring threads, whether it be about boring challenges or people complaining about low voting trolls because I have a tendency to highjack them in a different direction.
