It would be nice to see a distribution of scores at the end or at any instant to see where you sit (percentile). How good is a 5,6,7... - does this already exist?

From history of the challenges, you can get an approximate idea of your potential percentile placing. Although, it varies quite a lot..... in two ways. Your score won't reach a stable score until it reaches 100+ votes. And, some challenges have score arrays much higher than other challenges. For example, a score of 6.1000 in the last Free Study would have been at the 68th percentile.

Mine is at 6.1 - maybe it will climb :)

I have definitely noticed a deviation in how challenges score/place during voting.

I have also noticed that with my scores... after the first day, I can expect my score to stay relatively "unmoved" throughout the remainder of the challenge. My scores don't change very much after the first day (usually at around 30 votes, that's my determining score). It does fluctuate a little, but not by more than a few tenths.

After my reply, maybe we should move this to another thread as it could derail into something substantial.

Personally, I don't think this is a good idea. When you post the scores, aside from other people listing theirs in the current thread, you don't really know where they/you stand. Probably a good thing. I've been here about a month, and I can already pick out certain user by their submissions: gyaban, IreneM, NickyB, ScooterMcNutty, and others, with relative certainty. I know I'm not the only one, and reading the comments after voting supports my hypothesis. If we also knew exactly where a particular photo stood relative to the rest, it would affect the voting, I guarantee it.

======= EDIT ========
I'm specifically talking about adding where you stand percentage wise during voting.

I post mine sometimes...
But I don't thinking anyone can "pinpoint" my style, as of yet. I could be wrong, however.

But I don't think anyone "low voting" me would really succeed in anything... other than giving me the brown ribbon, which I would graciously accept. :)

My scores are usually "average"... being in the 5s.

I don't think it's bad to post the scores...
And as for sophiawood, I would assume people don't recognize your style yet either... as you seem to be relatively new to the site as well. So I wouldn't worry if I were you.
Unless, of course, you sought the opinion of others... and they are voting in this challenge... and they are trolls and purposely low vote yours. Or, the opposite could be true.
Just food for thought. :)

That being said... my score, of course... is sitting in the 5's... which I'm completely ok with. :)

Posting scores is one of the fun things about the waiting process during a challenge. If my score is very high, then I won't post. Or if it's incredibly obvious which one is mine, I may think twice about posting, why tempt fate? Otherwise, I enjoy the process and the camaraderie. The vast majority of people on here are honest voters. If someone is against me, they're going to vote me down regardless of what I post.

So why not post?

Have fun. Don't be afraid of the trolls!

It held onto a 6 for 15 votes and has gloriously plunged ever since

Just remember, trolls are afraid of fire. So include fire in your picture to keep the trolls away. Honest! ;P

I like the idea of keeping an eye on some of the scores, i don't expect to see people coming in here with "i've got a 9.7 avg over 75 votes" the way I would other places, it's friendly competition and that's great. But honestly, there's always someone in the 1% every time, they don't want to be reminded of that every time they login to see their score. I know i'd personally find it horrible if i logged in to see a score of 6 and a % of 2, meaning that a 'good score' or potential new PB is really horrible in this challenge.

I'm sure that being pretty new, and not having had proper training, most of my photos will be recognizable if you see my score here, but i don't care. I don't think that will or should affect how people vote, and i think for the people in the lower end of the bracket seeing your % along the way would be discouraging overall.

Not bad considering I haven't submitted anything in quite some time. A tad bit rusty when photographing "things" again. :)

Quite the opposite. Being new and not having proper training makes it the LEAST likely that your image will be recognized.
The images that are recognized tend to be those individuals who have been here a long time, have a very refined style and are frequent ribbon winners.

Don't worry, you are safe. As are 99% of all the others in these challenges.

As I've progressed through the site from beginner to doing alright scores generally stabilise at 100 vote mark then if you have a good ish photo it will take a hit near the end. All my high scoring shots have been hit hard at the end of voting.

Another factor is with noticeable entries such as gyaban jagar Wendy allenp etc I think ppl vote them up a little like oh that's so and so they do well on here so I should vote them high because their established members etc I've been guilty of it of course this might just be because they're excellent photographers and submit lovely pics but I love a good conspiracy theory/ human analysis. :)

I've got a 4.6 and a 6.2 and a 7.3 in voting at mo it's funny once you start getting 6+ consistently how your expectations change took me till the start of the year to break the 6 now I'm puzzled if I score lower I find it funny :)

I'm being trolled now because i said trolls are afraid of fire and just include it in your picture to be safe.
*that said, i have no fire in my picture, so the trolls are gettin their "no-fire" on*
