Hey, Nicky, don't you go to school?
Great score - keep it up.

**For anybody who may comment that my profile pic matches/matched an entry, i wasn't aware of that 'no-no' before this morning and i changed it (new guy, sorry if anybody took umbridge with that). If you press ctrl + F5 you will refresh your web browsers cache and my profile image will be updated. I changed the pic early this morning, but not before i had cast a few votes with some comments to a few people, so if you saw my comment you may see the old profile pic until you refresh**

First entry that i've submitted to be scored (i submitted to the art of 2011 before this, but still not closed yet...).

Setup my shot in about 5 or 6 minutes last night when i figured "why not put something up, see what responses i get to improve my next submission with".

Lack of macro lens means figuring out what i can do with an 18-55mm lens...

anyways, posted it and i'm slightly below where i was expecting (figured i'd be between .7 and 1.1 points higher than i am)

And it continues to plummet. Perhaps it's because it's recognizable? Or one of the other fatal flaws I seem to always run into.

Still, it's only day one, and barely above a 5. So, it's all good.

woohoo! my second all-time mid-challenge validation request!

I hope I can remember my editing steps.

Definitely. Recognizables dish out 1's. Mine is recognizable too and I only realised now that is DNMC. Above 5 is good. I'm just over 4!

I didn't realize this was a challenge where the sole purpose of comments was to guess what your entry is.

It's fine with me. I don't really care. This is the first real MACRO shot I've done, and the first Macro challenge I've entered. So I'm just interested in seeing how it places, and the comments given. :)

I don't consider the recognizables a DNMC, it's still abstract, and it's still macro. Just my 2 cents. :)

ETA: Another vote... down again. :P

i don't entirely agree... i would guess that most people can't tell what mine is, and it is hovering below 5.5... i was sure this would score well as it is "pretty", and the 2 comments say they liked it, so i am clueless as to why it is "meh" in general

p.s. maybe we all need to study the style of that youngster who keeps scoring in the high 6's and learn his secrets... ;-)

Mine's recognizable but not at the same time, so that's why I am getting quite a variety of scores...

No one has recognized mine yet, but the scores have been varying quite a bit.

I figured it'd be doing better. I figured wrong. At least nobody has guessed right so far ;)

Would have thought it was OK it the object was recognizable after looking at the photo for a few seconds as long as it was not immediately obvious at first glance. I get the feeling people think if they can recognize the object at all no matter how long they look at the photo then it is DNMC - perhaps I am mistaken?

The challenge brief says:

"Take a picture so close up to something that it cannot easily be identified at first glance."

Mine's clearly recognizable... even at first glance (at least I think so), but I entered it anyways. I am not saying any of them DNMC, but that's my opinion.

not too bad considering its not unidentifiable, its not a macro, and its not abstract.

Some very critical voters right now... the late night/early morning voters were nicer. LOL.

Dropped almost 1/2 pt. since this morning. Ehh... whatever. It's ok. Out of the three challenges I've entered, I think this is the best photo I've done so far, and it's doing the worst. Go figure.
Looks like that's a trend around here though. :)

Wild swings. Been as high as 5.44 and as low as 4.87. Could this be my love it or hate it entry? Anything but 5's, M'kay?
