I was wondering if anyone is working on creating time lapse movies. I know Terje has created some of the best out there, but how about any other DPC'ers? I've been messing around with different workflows...so far iMovie sucks, so do the free/share ware solutions and using Quicktime. Lightroom has been the best I've tried so far. I know Adobe Premiere and After Effects can be used too, but they're pricy.

I have an intervalometer in my Canon TC-80 Timer Controller and I'm thinking about making a dolly.

Anyone else?

WOW Giles, that's a drive that would make most people want to go to work! This is my drive to 'HO' that I do 2/3 times a week (video not TL sorry).

As for timelapse I dusted off my old Time machine the other day for an idea. Also have a copy of GBTimelapse but not really used it other than for Incense Smoke photography (used it for remote shooting to get away from the smell lol).

I have one posted -- my Canon also has the Intervalometer feature. I have an old copy of Premiere, which is fine for stringing together and assigning duration to a series of frames.

The easiest I've found is also the cheapest, FREE!

Download FFMPEG and run the following command...

ffmpeg -f image2 -i image%d.jpg -r 24 video.mpg

Be sure to export your images in the resolution you want the video to be in, and export them with sequential numbers starting at 1. The number after the -r flag is how may frames per second you want the video to be. There are also a bunch of other flags if you want to pick different encoding formats or bit rates.

Oh, found an old (sort of) timelapse but sadly Warners have removed the soundtrack even though I had written permission to use from the band!

I use Lightroom to make across the board adjustments to the frames and then Premiere Elements to put it together. PE isn't that expensive, but what I do lack is the ability to do the in-frame panning that can add that extra something to a time lapse clip.

I made this one last Saturday, looking out my front window it's not too interesting aside from the little snowstorm passing through

I used LRTimelapse and Lightroom3. Basically LRTimelapse lets you manage exposure and other adjustments smoothly over time and to deflicker the clip. This still has some flicker, but it's much better than using any of the other workflows I've tried.

I just use Windows Movie Maker (it's free). The last one I did was this one...

It was a hike down from the local state park. I took one photo every 5 steps.

I'm planning a time-lapse, but I don't have a really good one yet. But I'm a videomaker so I have the tools to do it. I use Premiere CS4 and After Effects CS4.

I can show you a few stop motion videos here.

I've used powerdirector 10 and thought it was okay. It's also nice for messing around with the hd video on the canon 60d.

I was a backer for the Timelapse+ on kickstarter.. Interesting project and cant wait for them to ship!

TimeLapse+
I also own a Brino which is the cheap and very poor quality way of doing a time lapse. It has come in handy though, Recently had it recording over night in my kitchen to find the source of my mouse problem.

Once it downloaded and ran smoothly, most of it looked more like a bobsled run than a hike -- whoosh! :-)

Thanks for pausing so we could read the sign.

My HDD keep filling up with folders of time lapse photos. Putting them together and editing them to make them enjoyable to watch takes time...here's a small preview of what I did, but nowhere near done
