I look forward to seeing what you can do with it. So smart of you to get your OMD that way. I really look forward to hearing how it compares to the EP3.

I'm jealous! I've been eyeing that one. The samples look great. Stands up to many of the big boys!

Speaking of which, check out the size comparison here:

Going to break it in with my pal DrAchoo at Bryce Canyon in a couple of weeks!

ugh. How did you get one already? I pre-ordered from Amazon in March. Still waiting. Still hating Amazon :)

I had it pre-ordered from Amazon and B&H. Both with the new 12-50 kit lens. Amazon got some in stock with the 14-42 older model kit lens. I'm not interested in the kit lens, so I ordered this one and canceled the others. It was less money and in stock.

The 4/3 sites are saying that Adorama has the body only in stock.

I pre-ordered from B&H on 2/12/12 and received the camera on 5/1/12. I have been a M43 user for years and this camera is AWESOME! I stopped lugging My 5DMKII and 1DMKII 2 years ago and have never looked back. I NEED the portability and love these cameras.

Cheers

Been working with mine for a week now. It is pretty sweet. Very solid build.

One disappointment, the AF follow tracking isn't all that. I took my kid to the go cart track and it rarely if ever kept up.

One very impressive feature, when the tracking didn't work out I changed to single focus and high speed sequence. 9 fps is awesome! Once something came into focus you just fire away.

Here's a good article from DPR on some suggested settings. Lots of customizable buttons and such.

Bring your 5D2 next week and I'll take if off your hands...

Long gone, pal.

It wasn't quite the way I was expecting to go, but yesterday I bought an Olympus E-PL1 relatively cheaply. It gives me the opportunity to see whether I like the micro four thirds system without investing a lot of money in it. If I find it works for me, I may buy the OM-D EM5 in a few months' time. Time to start saving!

What a pleasure to go out today without having to carry the weight of my 7D!

EPL-1 is still great. I carry it almost everywhere. Good choice to try out.

... on the other hand now with you on the EPL-1 boat I might never get the first spot on the camera page ;-)

Cheers,

T

I was just looking into that same camera... Just can't spend the money right now but I'm going to save up. Let us know what you think.

I think you've got a better chance of getting to number one than I have. But scarbrd is going to take some beating.

I chose that camera because I read that it is one of the sharpest cameras Olympus has made. I would really have liked a viewfinder and a touch-screen, but those will have to wait.

The Olympus OMD-5 is an amazing camera...I am still in the process of learning all the menus. I have the Panasonic GH2 too, and totally love this mirrorless camera too! The menus really differ, and it is a process.

Gina, I think you made a good choice. If you like the micro 4/3 technology a nice prime or longer range zoom should be on your list. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Henry. I'm not rushing into any lenses until I've got a feel for the camera.

A big temptation for a first purchase would be the Panasonic fisheye, just because I haven't got one for my 7D. I'm not sure that's a practical choice though. And a lot depends on when and if there's an O-MD EM5 in my future.

And that was the first ever entry on DPC with the E-PL1. It was fun for a while - there was just one image on the camera page and it was a blue ribbon with a 7.4 score. ;-)

ETA - Correction, it was the first image taken with that particular lens, not the camera.

Now to get that spot with the OM-D!

Which Olympus model would be a good starter micro four thirds?

The E-PL2 or the PEN Mini E-PM1. I'm not quite sure what the biggest difference is.

I enjoy Steve Huff's reviews on Micro 4/3 cameras. Here's a link if you're interested //www.stevehuffphoto.com/all-reviews/mirrorless-central/ .

I have been using my EP3 as my main camera since Jan. Do still kinda miss the low iso that my E3 had, or my evolt 500 had. But times change and ISO 200 seems to be the new low. Its a quality product, and I am enjoying the new lenses they are putting out. Like usual the kit lenses are actually quite good even though the they are slower speed. I wish the integration between the micro and regular 4/3rd's adapter was faster. Whipping on a 50-200mm SWD really seems to tax the EP3 on focus using the MMF-3. Guess that is to be expected...

The OMD is awesome! I only have one m.4/3 lens the 45mm and the pictures from it are beautiful. I have been using my 4/3 70-300 lens for baseball and the 9fps is sweet.

Yesterday I forgot the adapter for the 70-300 lens and had to use the 45mm. I discovered the digital telezoom feature and had some not too bad results.

45mm digital telezoom

4/3 70-300 lens: still trying to learn how to make this lens work on the OMD

Excellent real life review of the Olympus OM-D E-M5 from a working photographer in NYC.

Some interesting thoughts on the advantage of EVF (Electronic View Finder).

Thank you for that. Good read

I own both the Pansonic GH2 and the OM-D EM5. I have a real passion for video, so the GH2 was the perfect camera for me. The video is fantastic, and the raw files are spot on. I picked up the Olympus OM-D this summer, and it is a fantastic camera. It is fun to use and handles so well. I don't think most people realize how compact and small it really is until they have one in their hands. I also own the Panasonc 20mm and the Olympus 45mm and both are special lenses that are easily affortable. I also love finding old film camera lenses and shooting in manual...the focusing is easy, and each lens has a unique look. This summer I went to a Dave Matthews concert and the venue said absolutely no cameras with the ability to change lenses. I packed the OMD with the 45mm, and the security guard examined my camera bag and thought it was a point & shoot. Here are some of my photos from the concert:

Good stuff! And Happy Birthday Phebe! Beautiful child!

I just picked up the 45mm 1.8. Haven't shot with it yet. Can't wait to get it in the studio.
