So, it's my birthday today :) I'm a ripe old 24 lol. A couple of days ago I bought a near-new second-hand Nikon D700 off ebay, to upgrade from my D5100. I paid for express post, which from the eastern states to my part of regional western australia usually takes 2 days. The payment didn't clear until Wednesday night, so the guy posted it yesterday (Thursday). I was a bit bummed, knowing I'd have to wait all weekend for it to arrive on Monday.

So this morning, he emailed me the tracking number, and I just checked it online - and it is on board with the driver for delivery! YES!! I'm super excited, first time ever that I have had express post arrive the next day lol. And on my birthday no less.

BEST PRESENT EVER! I bought it for myself but thats ok lol :D

Well it just arrived, and it came with a 50mm 1.8 lens, so thats my only lens for now lol.

My first thoughts - it's heavy!! First thing my workmate said - "that'll take good pictures" haha... yep, the camera, not me :P

I'll take the hint and work on a portfolio lol if I upload my portfolio thus far, it's pretty much 100 different angles of my dog... lol

You can try the DX lenses on the 700. You will get a circular image with a heavy vignette, but if you have plenty of light and shoot at f11 or 16, you may be able to reduce that effect somewhat.
If you or some of your friends have older Nikon Ai lenses, you can use those too, in all manual mode. The Ai lenses are all for full frame cameras.
Meanwhile, you will have to zoom with your feet : ) It's good practice to be limited to one focal length for a while.
