Wow, probably my lowest average score given in a challenge. Is it me or did a majority of the entries NOT create a letter or letters using props? Subsequently, I gave pretty low scores for those who did not follow the rules, and pretty high ones for those who did. Photography or not, rules are rules...

Now you may argue that envisioning a letter from a building or a natural feature is "creating" the letter, but I feel differently about those shoehorns.

Just my opinion.

hmmm I found this definition for "prop": A theatrical property.

So I guess this means that anyone who did not use an item used in theater probably should get a 1. Must go look at the photos more carefully.

I object to the comments about images currently in the voting process. Are you people just trying to elevate your own placements by denigrating the attributes of others' images?

If you're a baghead during voting, I received one of your comments wondering where the letter is that I created "Ummm, where are the letters you created".

The letter was completely and totally created by me. I can see that you might think it was a found letter. But it was all my own creation. Sometimes assumptions are just wrong.

wow..ya'll ar rough. My shot is still hanging in there but it is slowly falling. If you think a pic is a shoehorn or a DNMC then leave a comment that explains why you are leaving a low vote. So far I have no comments so it must have played by the rules...

Oh and by the way, a prop can be just about any item...this includes buildings, inanimate objects, or a letter that you made.

hahn23 and jeager its a pretty narrow definition on this, a specific challenge rather than complaining about ppl who value what langdon and the site council do by setting challenges why dont you appreciate that ppl see a challenge, read the challenge and shoot for it, they then vote on that challenge, just because you two have your particular style and favourite subjects why should everyone do it your way. each to their own, what ppl going to do is argue it either way the milky way was the prop i used, the mountain as my prop etc but it doesnt matter its down to the voter, i created mine with props and its under 5 but i had a laugh so dont care.

when my boys in bed i'll comment on all the ones that didnt fit the challenge for me think there are only 50 odd entries so will try comment them all

I created my image with the props I prefer. When I voted, I voted on the artistic and technical merits of the images. I didn't see very many which didn't meet the challenge description. I would have had to create my own much narrower definition (as compared to the DPC challenge definition) to justify voting lower based on subject alone.

Details: Create one or more letters using any props you like and photograph your creation.

How bout.....

CREATE to evolve from one's own thought

Letter an element of an alphabet

ANY one or more without specification or identification

Prop any movable object used on a set

you like to suit the taste or wishes of.......(the creator)

This challenge should have NO DNMCs as the details are thoroughly open to interpretation. If one deems another's as a DNMC then at least half of the others will be DNMC'd. Just look at the entries people. We ARE our OWN creators.

People who criticize another's entry based on their thematic creativity in this challenge as DNMC are basically not quite as "creative"......(resulting from originality of thought) in their judgement of others......IMHO

Also this is a basic challenge. If you all want to be picky.....take a sharp look at the editing processes instead....there will be much more for you all to discuss.

I feel if I am using my camera to make the letter out of some stuff which people would not normally associate with a letter, I am creating it using the "props" on the ground. This is a photography competition, not a handcrafts workshop, for goodness sake.

Just my opinion. Of course you may vote as you wish.

ps. By the way, challenge details is not a rule, it is an (optional) description. Rules are here

Mine fits perfectly the challenge and I'm over the moon with the score so no complaints from me but I have an open mind when it comes to voting and I get totally cheesed off by all these petty DNMC remarks that we get in the forums, just vote and comment, if it doesn't fit your world give it a low vote, it won't matter at all because if it's a good photo regardless it will do well, like Yo_Spiff always says a strong photo always overcomes any DNMC issues.

All my pix are perfect.......I love myself.....I can do no wrong.......I don't care what anyone thinks..... I have no ego .......
I live in and with confusion...... I delight in the complete arbitrary nature of us all....... I make myself laugh........ I am politically incorrect and I LOVE to read these forums...now....it just makes me curious...how serious are some of you?....very entertaining. I don't think I can continue though....somewhat addictive. Back to my studio.

It's other people's issues that interest me...once again....I find that negative criticism backfires very often....

if I tell you my scores you will laugh....muuuuuaahahahahwwwwaaahahhaaaaaa and I just couldn't stand the stimulation.

Err, Actually I do, but what does that have to do with how I interpret a picture?

When I started here I took the descriptions quite literally and voted accordingly. Now as I have been here awhile and have explored my own photography I am very loose with the interpretations. of course if there is a photo of a building in a challenge about NO buildings then it would be different. My thinking on this is of course my thinking and someone else may be different but that doesn't mean either is wrong. I like out of the box entries :)

LOL!!!! That's quite a declaration. btw, I'm quite pleased with my score, so I'm not complaining about the votes. I should have made that "M" with m&m's in the kitchen. Now, that would have been creation.

...my tongue is stuck in my cheek............ and it won't grow up.......ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....BITE your tongue
....woman

I just checked my score.
It goes up and down.
I get EXTREMELY opposing comments.

I LOVE IT!

Someone said something about "trying" for the brown. Some of what I think is my most imaginative work ends up on the bottom of this barrel.....and it's NOT like I'm trying. The stuff I find mediocre sails.....I really can not predict what will happen with any given photograph....which intrigues me. I like the work of those who like my "worst" work...sometimes...the people who seem to "get" my stuff I seem to admire......I put things out here depending on my mood......
depends on the day.....the patience level
some people have "a style" if someone comments I make time to look through ALL their work....usually late at night!

I revel in inconsistency.....but if someone finds a pattern one day...maybe after 5 years of trying this...let me know...if you notice.

ABC it's easy as 123.........as simple as......(I don't THINKKKKKKKKKKKK soooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I am out to learn.....at this point I am still trying to let go of the fact that my film days are numbered...maybe zero. I know VERY little about the technical stuff with the digital and am FASCINATED to have the opportunity to learn and read and participate in a site which has soooooo many fabulous talented and willing experts on hand to share their knowledge.
Thank you DPC>
