I don't know the answer to your question, but these pictures and the technique are awesome. A great way to make pictures that can be framed and put onto the wall in your best room.

I've tried this and you can see my attempt here

You should be able to do this in photoshop elements. First get the pictures into a B&W or monochromatic colour palette, then use the layers options to build up the three pictures on one new canvas.

With Photoshop, all you would need to do is create a new blank image of the dimensions you want, then just copy and paste each photo into the new image, line them up like you want, add any text, and you'd be done. At least, this would work in Photoshop 7... I don't see why they would have removed the create new image feature in PS Elements.

Threw some more together...the second one isn't really monochromatic but I hope I'll be excused.

Monochromatic Triptych photos would make a very good challenge, but it would be a big challenge,
This is a area of photography I realy want to get in too, after seeing all the M.T. photos here.

I really like the one with the blue toning. Is it really a triptych though ? It is more of a diptych I think as it looks like just 2 pictures composited ? The 'frame within a frame' approach is really interesting though.

Thanks for the comments, yeah not sure myself. Some dude on photo.net suggested I try it and I couldn't decide which I liked more. It is 3 pictures, though the translucency takes away from the water texture. I did a third with the water in black and white and it's interesting as well. The blue one seems to have more public appeal, for sure.

I have tried this and my pictures always end up blurry. How do you make the picture smaller without making it blurry?

Great shots. Very inspirational.

Ah - missed that the first time - I thought the stones just had a blue toning over the top, rather than it being a watery third picture laid over the stones.....cool!

Thanks...I use CorelDraw, setting the composition with guidelines that you can snap to. The key is to try and not resize or resample the images if you can, but crop them at 100%. It seems to get the best results. I do my usual unsharp mask, contrast enhancement (levels adjustment) and colour mode conversion but little else. I did resize the driftwood piece. I'm not familiar with PhotoShop and not sure if it gives you an option to export with antialiasing, but I simply export at 300dpi with an antialias pass to smooth everything out for a pleasing look on the monitor.

AAAAARGH!

I've been outed! I noticed that my beach texture triptych entries, linked to above, were removed from the triptych assignment. I wrote to ask why, but no response yet. Obviously they have a problem with the panel location? There are three panels, just simply on top of each other. Down with conformity! Bah!

I would love a tryptich challenge here ;-)
I guess we could keep the same rules for each part of the tryptic and obvisouly relax them to allow the build of the tryptic.

Jimmy, shame on them. I loved the one with the blue in it.

Franziska, that's excellent. Love the detail, and genius use of the tape measure!
