mine runs a little under $30 per month but it's used only for emergencies.
You know when you're up the crick without a paddle, well, this is my emergency paddle.
Sometimes I remember to charge the battery.
No, I don't remember the phone number that belongs to it.

My husband and I each have a Tracfone @ $100/year per phone and with our land line @ $20/mo = about $37/mo for everything. Obviously we don't have smart phones and don't use our cell phones much at all. We each get only about 1000 minutes a year on the Tracfone which is more than enough for us as we use the land line most of the time.

I just started on the walmart family plan, $45 a month unlimited talk, text and web, but the web really actually isn't that great from what I've heard really slow, but I don't use it a lot so I don't really care. I think additional phones are $35 a month but my husband gets a cell phone paid from his work and my kids are to young to need a phone yet. We don't have a home phone anymore so I got my kids a pre-paid track phone and spend around $30 every 6 months to put more minutes on it. That way they have a phone for emergencies when I am out, my oldest is just old enough to start babysitting for us so we wanted her to have a phone so she could reach us when we were out and for emergencies, otherwise it's not used much.

iPhone for me, + another phone for my sons mostly when I leave them alone because we have no landline = $130 US/mo

kinda pricey for sure, but I use the heck out of my iPhone.

My plan gives me:

Unlimited calls to any mobile or landline in Australia.
Free voicemail.
Unlimited text and mms messages etc.
Free 1800, 1300 and 13 number calls.
$100 worth of international calls/text.
5gb data downloads.

I pay AU $100 p/m, equivalent at the moment to US $107

dutch t-mobile smartphone €30/month (~$40) 150 minutes and/or texts, unlimited web (it is slow) I use the gps maps mainly.
costs extra to dial out of country though, which is only two or three hours away by car.
i had the basic plan before, 90 minutes/month for €8/mo. simple phone, that's affordable!

Dangit, Canada suck for cell phone plans. >:-(

But the US isn't as all-round inexpensive as I thought, though there's a fair bit of disparity.

Here in Japan, I have the cheapest family plan ... I don't know - about $20 per month. I rarely use it for calls, even less for text messages, but at least it's good for carrying around as a clock in lieu of a wristwatch. (And I was never comfortable with a wristwatch.)

But Slippy, didn't you start a thread like this last year?

Probably. Maybe it was similar except referring to TV, phone or internet? I make the rounds of calling and hassling the big providers every year or two, just to keep them on their toes.

I did phone my internet provider just a couple of months ago because they raised the rates. Their excuse was that they had increased the monthly bandwidth limit form 60G to 80G. I told them I didn't want their new, more expensive plan, and to put me back on my old one. They said they couldn't becuase it no longer existed. Everyone was forced into the new, more expansive plan. She finally agreed to leave me on the new plan, but at the old price. I didn't make a video of it though.

I made a video calling Satellite TV to get my rate lowered $20. Still too bloody expensive if you ask me. I also made a video a long time ago of the epic journey of quitting Bell DSL as an internet provider.

It's something to do. :-)

6 phones, 3 of them smart phones with data plans and insurance, 700 total minutes, unlimited texting, = $300 per month US. Ouch.

Here's the other part of that question.....

How many of us still pay for a home phone or just bumped up a cell phone only plan?

I have one, but not for much longer... total waste of money.

as stated earlier i got rid of mine well over a year ago, might be closer to two. I just got a google number that will ring both my and wife cell phones, set in the evening and we give out that number as our home number, works just the same. if anyone calls it during the day i get a text with the transcribed message.

I got rid of my landline over 7 years ago. Total waste of money. The only people who called it were telemarketers. The only reason I kept it as long as I did was because I was using DSL at the time and you needed a landline to get it. Once they changed the way that worked, I got rid of the landline. Then a couple years ago, I switched to cable internet.

I got rid of my landline years ago also. No need for one.

I think it's around $115 for me, my sister, my mom, dad, and grandma for 1500 anytime minutes unlimited weekends/evenings/T-Mobile-T-Mobile. Unlimited texts of any kind including video.
But we've been with T-mobile forever so they give us free minutes....

With O2 and have a Samsung Wave and pay £25 per month (USdlrs 39) for which I have unlimited texts, 300 mins of voice calls (any time) and 500mb of data. I can't believe some of the monthly costs some people are paying on here!
