Please no more bugs.
I have just marked all the Macro entries and i'm sorry but i am sure that my scoring of the 'bugs' got progressively lower. I didn't mean it but there was just so many of them. They are all technically great, but i just had that deja vu feeling on every other picture.

not if they think the score will suffer because of it :)

It is very easy to dismiss a subject we do not care about or one that we feel has been overdone...however, it is wiser to examine each one as I am sure that some are unique. This applies to any other subject. To close one's mind and eyes is possibly the worst.

But you have to admit, there are some dayum awesome bugs there!

There are some great bugs there and i marked 1 a 10 and 3 a 9. I was trying to be funny and yet again i failed :(
But i was tiring of them towards the end.

When this happen, when you get tired of woting, then the best thing you can do is stop woting, so other people dont get low scores because you are tired. Very simple and makes everyone happier.

You should try spreading out your voting over a longer period of time. This helps with any boredom that comes from this issue.

I'm talking about over the entire course of the week :)

i find nearly impossible to put any thought into the photos if i vote on more than 25 at a time. sometimes this causes me not to vote on them all - but the votes i give have been more thoroughly thought out.

I have been doing the same. One of the things I keep saying is that most photos on DPC don't get more than a couple seconds of thought from a voter. I'm trying to give the amount of thought I would want to get.

Added: Granted, with over 500 photos, that is way more than anyone should ever have to look at in a week :)

exactly - i then go back through anything i voted a 4 or higher and make sure i still feel the same about it.

i like to vote on them all over a day or two and then go back over them all over the next 5 or 6 days commenting and readjusting the scores

Bug photography is a big part of what I do. I don't think I'll stop submitting bugs to DPC. Sorry.

ok, i'm sorry. My comment wasn't meant to upset people. It was meant in jest. I was mearl saying that there was a lot of bugs. I quite like bugs. Unfortunatly my camera does not have enough macro to get a good bug capture. There are a lot of fantastic bugs in this challange.

I'm with you, Jacko. If my score holds, I just might give you a run this time...

Its a tradition, every challenge must have bugs. And it is a real challenge to make a great bug photo!

I can appreciate this approach and it probably gives some pretty accurate scores, but how many people really have that much time to devote to it - or are that devoted to it?

I usually sit down and vote in one sitting. It might take me an hour or two, but I think the time I give to the photos is adequate. If something is really off, I'll take more time to examine it closer, but usually just move on and leave a sufficiently well-thought out score.

That said, a bug is a bug is a bug... however, some bugs are better than others.

My submission was a bug photo, but after seeing so many fantastic ones (so far), I wish I'd chosen something else.. it's barely hanging on to a 5, and'll probably drop under. Still, bugs are fun to photograph; for me, it's mainly a test of whether they or I will run away first. ;)

And then there's how many blue dragonflies in the Blue challenge...gah, it was cool a couple times and then it got old. And I caught myself going to mark one lower because I'd already seen it several times and then went no, it's a great picture, it deserves a high score...but dang it was hard. -_-

I new it was going to be full of bugs anf flowers. But I just had to. Sorry :)
08/02/2004 08:59:10 PM · #23
I love the bugs, and I actually like the flowers also. But in a contest where its almost certain that there will be lots of both, well the photo should stand apart from the rest. And I have seen several that are just awesome bug shots...they will be rated very high.

I think the people that suffer in voting the most are the pretty good shots that just get lost in the shuffle.

OK then, we have a quorum, from now on we mark down bugs, right? So now the proscribed list includes bugs, children, little frogs, cats, kittens, flowers, sunsets and... whatelse? I know there are more. I just want to be sure I am voting down the correct subject matter. I would hate to be unfair to subjects that we haven't agreed to be unfair to.

I think you left out desats... ;-)
