Good crowd showing up for the interviews... There are not many people sticking around other time, but as long as you guys show interest to the interviews, the doors will stay open ;)

Does your count reflect actual logins, or also "Leaving the room" and "Returning ..."?

I don't know... honestly :)

Well, if the latter, it's distorting your stats -- if I'm logged in and following a chat, then click on a linked picture to see what's being discussed, it shows me as having left the chatroom, and then re-entering when I make that the active window again. I saw one sequence where I "left and returned" several times in a row without there being any other activity in the chat.

Well, I think when there is an interview, there are more activities... I have seen around 20 people same time for some of them, still a good number for a brand new website :)... hoping it will grow :)

*** What is DPChatRoom? ***

A Life Boat: From time to time DPC having some problems and it shuts down the site for a few hours or up to a day... Instead of panicking, you can drop by and keep chatting with fellow DPCers.

A Fun place: Vote for gallery images, vote for polling, use its search room to find about anything you need, read previous interviews, chat with your friends in real-time environment... even listen popular music.

Interviews:
Join our weekly live interviews hosted by other DPC members as well. Interact with our guests and ask questions face to face.

More exposure: Send me your ribbon winning image thumbs via DPC PM, I'll add them to DPChatRoom gallery. Not only DPC members but people from other places also visiting DPChatRoom and browsing its gallery... your images can get more recognition besides DPC. Check the box says "(DPC Members) Link in" when you log in to the chat room, so people can click on your name to visit your DPC profile page.

Links: Read about latest cameras, watch tutorial videos. They are all there for you to visit.

Free: DPChatRoom is a free website for photographers. No membership or any other information needed, just enter a username and join our chat room.

(DPChatRoom is the unofficial sister website to DPC... founded, designed, created and maintained by FocusPoint)

New Poll: "Who is your favorite old time photographer from this list?"
03/11/2012 09:53:31 PM · #188
Some may have noticed that DPChat has gone black, but most probably haven't. For that reason I'm bringing it to your attention.

Why has it gone black? I don't think it's for aesthetic reasons. FocusPoint has told me that due to lack of interest he's shutting it down and not focusing his time to it anymore. The lights have literally been shut off. The chat will remain available until the domain expires, but the next two interviews are the last of their kind.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm going to miss the place. This is the 3rd DPC chatroom I've witnessed the demise of, but prior to their demise I've met some great people and learned essential skills from each that have made me the photographer that I am now.

I know people don't have a lot of time, but I'm sure most people can scrounge up 10-20 minutes a week to pop in. I see a lot of "which one" threads in the forums. Imagine almost literally instant responses! I know personally I've helped a few people with selecting which photo to put in a challenge, and people have helped me. I've also seen requests for editing suggestions, and have done multiple edits to help others. Challenge brainstorming? Yea, that happens there too. How about the interviews with our very own "celebrities"? FocusPoint has managed to dig up some of the greats that have left us and are out making money doing what they love. It saddens me that folks don't take advantage of the great learning tool FocusPoint has been generously providing us the last few months.

I personally would like to send out a plea that people show this really is something that is important to our community. Make posts in this forum or better yet show up to the chat. If no one is in the room be bold and be the first one. Hang out for the time you have available. smardaz laughs at me because I'm always in there, but I'm doing it because I have the time and I'm trying to keep this thing alive.

Please help. Please show FocusPoint that this is important to the community. At the very least thank him for the effort and amount of time he has dedicated to trying to make this work.

Staying online to chat till even after the official interview is done is great fun. It's like hanging out with friends at the local watering hole. There are plenty of gems there. I happen to have missed the interviews between Art and grigrigirl , but wish I hadn't. Grigrigirl was really fun in chat after the interview was done. I kept the chat window open to catch up later as it was past my bedtime (11pm) ;) So you'll miss some great stuff that may not be in the recorded section so being there in chat is highly recommended.

Yeah, she's kinda weird and will hang out in there by herself.....with the lights off...it's creepy!

Seriously though, I think this is more of a symptom of the trends of the web rather than just this site in particular. People tend to like things like facebook more, where you can reply to things at your leisure, chat rooms just aren't the novelty they were in the early days of the www. Of course, thats just my opininon. I have enjoyed some conversations in there myself.

Day after Hanneke's interview, 76 unique visitors vs. 23 returning visitors, which is a record difference... and it also tells us Hanneke's FaceBook post worked... many none-DPCers visited to read her transcript ;)

Darn, missed another interview. I have the thread on watch but changing it to email replies. So hopefully email reminders will work better.
