There are 66 entries.. I am planning to take the time to listen to the music that accompanies each entry as I vote. Yes of course I will vote on the image itself (not on the music) but I would like to make sure I understand (the best I can) the inspiration for the entry.

How about you?

I agree, but....some people may not all see the same meaning in the lyrics. Some of those lyrics are a bit gruesome LOL! The meaning behind them is what I go for, not the lyrics themselves. Never been a heavy metal fan myself, but I listened anyway :)

I really wanted to enter this challenge but I was unable to. That being said, I am familiar with a high %age of the song titles used and it's interesting to see how people interpreted this challenge.

This is going to be fun voting.

Sure, everyone has their own way of interpreting things (lyrics included) but my point is that every entry is accompanied by a title that refers to the music so why not give it a listen?

I am not a big heavy metal listener so most of the titles are new to me. I am open to music and won't mind hearing them. I suspect there are others who, like me, had to do a lot of listening to choose their image/title so I want to give support to that.

the challenge was heavy metal song titles though not heavy metal song derived from the song lyrics or meaning.... might be a difference?

I haven't done more than glance at the entries yet but I'm guessing most people didn't just plop in a title without knowing anything about the song.

I've always liked Heavy Metal, although I guess most of the lyrics are really not nice. So I preferred just to get the title and make some beautiful shot about it. You know... I really don't even like to think about "seas of blood"

You know, its not all about that.

There are many Christian Metal bands. From Stryper to As I Lay Dying. Of course most other notable Christian Metal bands who sing about pretty things go unnoticed in mainstream media but are popular with those who like that genre.

On the opposite side of the spectrum are the church burning black metal bands who are pretty much all for show but still, they do have some impressive songs. Take out the lyrics, slow it down half beat and remove all that distortion and you've got beautiful rock instrumental music. ;)

FWIW I'm not a metalhead by any means and had only heard the song I used just a couple of times. So I read the lyrics and watched the *official* video of the song on Youtube, and saw my original concept was pretty much in keeping with the intent of the song. So if you read the lyrics that go with my entry's name you get the idea.

Exactly. But a little research is a good thing. That's where I'm headed.

Ha!

I went for the song not the title.

Seriously, I applaude Penny for making this effort.

And "plop" is such a harsh word. I prefer to think of it as retrofitting. I should add that once I found a title that fit my masterpiece, I did find and listen to the song it its entirety, and it actually kind of worked.

I did, however, have to explain to my wife why I, the operagoer and jazz snob, was listening to Anthrax and Metallica. Some of it's not as offensive as I remember.

Funny how what used to be classified as metal back in the day is nothing more than (hard)rock these days.

Notice I said we did not plop.
And how funny is it that you were the one who posted the list of songs? I listened to a few and had a good time picking an image that I think fits the music well. I can listen to 66 more. I know I can.

Ha! You're adorable, bvy! LOL!

I'm not at all a Heavy Metal or even a Hard Rocker. But... I'm game for a challenge, so... I searched Heavy Metal Song titles.

Found one I thought would work so I shot for it... edited it... entered it...

THEN... I looked up the lyrics. GHASTLY!! So... I listened to it.

Oh my WORD!! It was WORSE than ghastly!

Stepped back.

Liked my image I'd worked so hard on... so I searched for a different song... one I could somehow relate to the lyrics of...

Found another... it fit! And it said something kinda meaningful! (to my amazement! I'm NOT a Heavy Metal kinda gal... but I think I mentioned that before)

So... I entered.

I'm kinda disappointed at how my image is being received.

This IS a Heavy Metal challenge, right?

So... odd things might be presented that normally wouldn't be presented... Right?

It's still a PHOTOGRAPHY contest, right? Not a political war?

I'm so disappointed in the voters so far.

I didn't enter for a ribbon... but I did expect for all images to be voted on for their photographic merit and their adherence to the topic... not for their political correctness.

I'm quite shocked, actually.

It IS a photography contest, right? Did I miss something??

*sigh*

Lydia... my point exactly. The images might be "odd" and (to me) the music is somewhat foreign... that's why I'm suggesting a listen while viewing. No question, in the end, it's the photo we're voting on.

Well, I plopped if no one else did. I felt that certain of my imagery shared something with heavy metal -- dark, disturbing, depressing. Whatever. The title had to be the link, and the handful of metal songs I'm familiar with didn't fit anything I had to offer. ("Girls, Girls, Girls" wasn't cutting it.) That's where the big list came in; it was a plopping aid. But like I said, I did make it a point to listen (endure?) all five minutes of the song I chose, and found the two to be somewhat kindred. Otherwise I might have had to deplop.

Yes, this was a challenge in more ways than one.

I read some of the lyrics of the heavy metal music.
There was no way I was going to listen to more than a few bars of the genre.
So, I found some lyrics that I could live with and made my piece.

It's tanking, and perhaps plopping too.

Oh, well.
