Already got my camera bag, but looking to get umbrellas and booms for my external flash that my 7D can trigger and a new compact flash card. Now all I need are clients.

Perhaps I read the initial request differently than most... I did not interpret his comment as requesting that someone on the site purchase a renewal for him, but rather a general statement that he wished for a renewal.

If you are inclined to believe that such utterances are a direct plea for members to purchase things then I wish I had a Mercedes.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to all.

:O)

The Christmas Wish List was always a highlight fot me and I enjoyed giving (and receiving, lol) gifts to my fellow DPCers! It was the highlight of the Christmas season for me as we don't have kids, but last year and this year I have not been in the position to do anything. We haven't had Christmas at our house for the past two years, so I haven't really watched for this, but I can/will bake if anyone wants anything. I will hand make earrings for any of the girls (or guys) should you want something, but that is the best I can do right now! :)

I didn't see a Christmas Card Exchange list either this year, so I guess only those I currently have addys for (past years) will get cards.

All I want for Christmas is a job people to treat others as they want to be treated and for commercialism and greed to move to the back of the class, with simplicity and doing the right thing to move to the front.

Happy Christmas to everyone!
(And if you don't celebrate Christmas, whatever you believe. If someone wishes me something different, I'll wish them the same and not be offended!!) :)

Well, if you are 5 years old (as posted on your page), then I expect you wouldn't have kids. :-)

It's nice to help others out that are less fortunate, as we've been there, in the past. (Before kids!) :-)

Well said. I have always enjoyed the Christmas gift thread on DPC. I am always amazed at what people will do to help other people here at DPC. One of the reasons I keep coming back here is the sense of community that DPC has. One of my favorite quotes:

“It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart.” - Anne Frank

The joy is in the giving, not in seeing some conditions you've attached to the gift fulfilled. unquote]

Dan,I have never attached any conditions to anything I have parted with on this site - be that gift membership, lenses or monies etc. - but when someone receives a gift membership and then does not use it, that disappoints me, I see it as a waste and someone else could have benefited.

The Christmas gift threads have declined on here over the years and last year there was little interest from people Christmas 2010

..I stand by my gut feeling regarding the OP.

it was just a post;/ thanks for ruining my day with all that hate for a general statement. This site was supposed to be like family.

Yes, I took it as that but some didn't.

Had this thread been titled differently, say "2011 Christmas Wish List" would the op have garnered the same reactions?

This is the time of year for good cheer! Let's show a little, eh? :)

Don't take it personally.......it's just that a few bad eggs over the years have left a bitter taste on this subject. One particular photog flat out asked for a membership......one who owned thousands in equipment and whose parents were picking up the ticket for college and life in general.

It has a tendency to make one cynical.....

If you're still interested after all this brou-ha-ha, PM me, and I would be delighted to gift you a membership.

Like I said in an earlier post, the condition is that you have to do the same for some photog in the future....

Merry Christmas, or whatever, for this holiday season.

You can always pick up a powershot pro1, they're about £50 here on ebay, that's 'L' glass (or is it plastic in this case?) =).

You must accept there's some truth in the criticism though, since someone's now paid for your membership... it would take a lot of naivete in creating this thread, whatever the main intention, to have not considered that it would likely result in someone else paying for your membership.

The most recent case in my mind is a few weeks ago; someone asked for membership, art paid for his membership, then next challenge he cheated and got his account removed.

Arguing, sniping, discontent, judgmentalism - how is this NOT like family? ;-)

Stings a little, but wouldn't stop me from doing it again. Also, I've had people gift me a membership a couple times over the years even though I could have paid. What goes around comes around - karma usually takes care of things. It would be nice if we all tried harder to assume innocence and good intentions when people post. 'Tis the season, you know. :)

I'd say that you have attached expectations to those gifts and you came in here and expressed your disappointment in others by venting on the OP.

Now if the OP was one of those people you'd bought a membership for and they had done nothing with it, that would be a different thing entirely. But he's not and you've assumed the worst of someone you have no knowledge of.

"You can always pick up a powershot pro1, they're about £50 here on ebay, that's 'L' glass (or is it plastic in this case?) =). "

they along with old uzi olympus uz were great weren't they! £50 = +/- R700 here depending on exchange rate.

The funny thing was an aquaintance from the camera club came to the house yesterday with her 100-400 l lens and said here would you like to use this lens for a while! She knew nothing about this post! She doesn't belong to dpc so couldn't have seen it there!
