I love mine... the battery power is great (I can easily get 700+ shots without the battery reading below full)... the noise-reduction feature is a nice plus, and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it since I got it in October '02.

Seems like people like the D70s just as well, and they're less expensive.

It's a good camera yes. But if you are considering buying a Nikon Digital and your budget is in the D100 range, I suggest you get a D70 and save for some extra bits. I do think D70 is a better camera than the D100.

I love my D-100. I've had it since September of 2002, and have not had a single problem... have taken thousands of photos... have traveled with it... and have enjoyed every outing with my D-100.

All that said, under the hood, the D-70 is a better camera simply because technology is newer and less expensive. Where the D-100 holds an advantage over the D-70 is in body construction -- the D-100 is studier, more rugged.

It is my understaning that the D100 is a nice camera. I think the D70 takes very nice images also but I don't like the plastic. Build quality is very important to me because I do a lot of out door events rain or shine sometimes so I need a camera that will handle that. It depends what you are looking for I guess. I think the D70 may be a better buy if you look at quality of the image but it you that must decide what is more important. Both will take great shots.

I'm very happy with my D70. The only issue I have is that while you can lock the mirror up the shutter for cleaning, the shutter will not fire. I believe the D100 has an "anti shake" setting which will delay the shutter firing for a little bit after the mirror goes up to minimize any mirror vibrations.

So, if you are planning to hook up your camera to a telescope or otherwise be in exacting situations where you would normally expect to be able to lock the mirror, the D70 can't do it. (And from what I read it is not a firmware issue, but a mechanical impossibility due to the type of shutter it uses.)

But, I emphasize - I am very happy with the D70, would not trade it for another even if it did have MLU. (And it takes good astro pictures, you just have to use the "hat trick".)

I bought my D100 a year ago and I love it. The build quality is excellent. I do have a D70 on order and will be happy to get started with it. True there are features that were not available at the time of the D100, but honestly D100 will do everything you need. If you need things that these cameras don't offer, you are in need of a pro camera because you use your camera as your business. If you want the stout metal frame and body, go D100. If that doesn't matter get a D70. Both are great.
