I have changed the original post everyone.

After the long line on the bottom there are a few things added. Please read and respond accordingly when you can.

Thanks guys! :)

I'm OK with either day in general, but would probably lean towards Sunday if I had to choose. Call it a 80% chance of attending at this point (I won't know for sure til much closer to the day).

I will put you down for Sunday as a vote. :)

If enough interest develops before that weekend, and enough people are coming, some who can make Saturday and some Sunday, then maybe there should be some chat about having two GTG's. The people who can not make Saturday could do Sunday, and possibly some do both.

I'm good with either day. I'm ready to meet some more DPC'ers, and share some shooing.

Waddy, I have added a "both" section. I too would be willing to do a two day GTG.

Bump for anyone who missed the update.

As of now, I can make either day. It seems that a lot of my work demands that I work weekends these days so having a GTG both days closes the door on work during that time. I'd prefer to make it one day or the other unless nothing else decides to fill the calendar that day.

Shorter answer: put me down for both days, either or both are fine.

Marko...can you give a solid run down of when and where...are you still thinking the Keys...can't really be sure...

11/21/2011 11:14:47 AM · #59
As of right now, I am thinking that the Keys would be too far for people to drive THAT far. I was thinking of either the Everglades or in the city area of Miami.

I am adding a poll for that action too. If you would like to chime in with what you would like to do that would be great.

11/21/2011 11:37:28 AM · #60
I live pretty far south of Miami, so all three of those options are easy for me :)

So, are we taking suggestions for locations yet. I would like to get in some urban time, which would be out of my normal box, as well as possibly a run down toward Flamingo for some nature if time allows.
This is a little off topic, but since this thread is being watched by the Florida dwellers, they are planning to launch the rocket with the next generation Mars rover Saturday AM. I hope to be there at the Cape. Anyone else thinking about going there?

Always up for suggestions! I am trying to make this as non-complicated as possible.

Three general locations to choose from until we figure out where exactly we want to go. Then we can figure out exacts when we figure out where(ish) we want to go.

Flamingo FL is pretty close to the Keys if I am not mistaking (Correct me if I am wrong of course).

Can I put your vote down under both Miami's city area and the Keys, Waddy?
11/21/2011 10:49:28 PM · #63
The Miami area is about 2.5 hours away, and the mid Keys 3, lower Keys 4-4.5 hours on the road. I have access to a nice boat where I can stay overnight at Little Torch, about 30 miles from Key West if necessary, then drive either way from there.
Flamingo is accessed by driving west from Homestead/Fla City area. Robert goes there, and knows that area well.

In on any location. I can be useful in Miami - elsewhere I'm only marginally knowledgeable.

When I get back to a computer I will update the original post.
Cory, I am putting you down for all three locations.
Waddy, I am putting you down for all three locations (with emphasis on Miami).

Bump!

Anyone figure out if they are 100% yet?

It looks like we may be doing a memorial service for Mom on one of the two GTG days. Her 97th birthday would have been Jan.16th, so we are planning it either for the 14-15th weekend, or the one following. I will keep everyone updated.

Sounds good to me. :)

Would any of you be interested in getting together for dinner on the evening of Sunday, January 8? I'll still be in the area after returning from a cruise that morning, and I'd enjoy meeting you guys.

It would be nice to see Cory again, after meeting him in Texas last winter... never met Manic despite spending all these years on SC with him... and there are a number of you that I've always thought it would be cool to meet (like everyone who has participated in this thread ;)

I'd be up for suggestions as to where to go... I'll be dropping my wife and daughter off so they can fly home. I'll probably have them to the airport in Fort Lauderdale by 5-ish that night, so I'd be up for anything after that.

Alan, I'm not sure on my availability that far ahead yet, but I think I'll probably be able to shuffle things around. Count me as 75% maybe/yes :)

Unsure of my flight times this winter break. I know I am headed to Kansas to see my brother and I don't know when the flight home is, so I may not be able to make that one. I will however (when I figure it all out) let you know for sure. I don't think I would have an issue with it as long as I am back in time. It is only about an hour from me so it is not that big of a deal.

I have a high school pal who lives at the beach in the Lauderdale area, so I may be able to visit with him and then come out for a cheese burger GTG on the evening of the 8th. He's an avid photographer too, but not on DPC yet. I haven't been over that way in a while. It's about 1.5 hrs from here to Lauderdale. I'm not much on party/nightlife stuff, after playing music in those places for about 15 of my younger years, but dinner and chat sounds good. Dark is about 6 ish o clock in mid Jan, so light for daylight shooting would be limited.

I'm not suggesting that we have to get together in Lauderdale... I'm more than happy to head further south to a more convenient spot for everyone. Somewhere off I-95 closer to Miami seems like it would probably work... I wouldn't even mind heading down toward Homestead if that's more convenient.

I'm thinking along the lines of 7:00-ish...

At that hour and day I would probably suggest Miami Beach, as many/most other places on a Sunday evening will be dead, but I honestly don't really care what we do I'm in as long as I'm in town, and I'll make sure I'm in town.

What are your transportation plans?
