Disaster has struck average 4.4 !!

If a 6 are the first positive number in the table from 1 to 10, I think the evaluations have been too severe in the last times! Too destructive and gratuitously for my taste...

I just hope most of the grumpy people have finnished voteing - I'm not happy with my picture at 5.3 because its more like a 6 imho.

Got 4 very nice comments so far - thanks to those that take the time to leave a comment.

Hey, MatrixReloaded, this is my first challenge entry too! Best of luck to you.

I made a list of ideas for the challenge, and I'm okay with the one I picked, though I know I could have come up with something better. I can't complain, I'm certainly happy with it for my first challenge.

My goal is just to get in the top 50% this time. Maybe next time I'll try for top 40%...

For someone who has given an average of 4.3 in votes cast, I guess you get what you give!!

When I vote (very few times, I confess), I voted almost every photos or random shots of the challenge. Not only the best 20% ;)

Looks like everyday objects in Australia are not the same as everyday objects in the US. I had some comments that sa they don't see the everyday object or words to that effect. Or maybe I got all the grumpy voters [that have never entered a challenge by the way ;-{) ].
Maybe if the opened the aperture on their narrow little minds they could see a little clearer. On a brighter note thanks for the positive comments most of you guy's are really helpful.

I was so excited about this shot and I am still getting hammered. Most frustrating part is that it's going to be hard to learn/improve without any comments.

Based on my two comments, I'm thinking DPCers may think I used some effect on my submission, when it's actually straight from the camera. Well, it was rotated, but I don't even think I cropped it. It's not doing well, and now I wonder if my original would have done better...

While I'm please at the score I'm happier about the number of comments. That's a record number for one of my photos. Album cover os holding is own with a 6.17 and 19 comments. I think I've found my nitch!

That brings up another question I have seen raised before. Do you vote 1-10 on a particular group of photos (as in, what is the best of this group in this challenge) or do you vote universally in challenges (would this be a 10 if there were "better" competing photos?).

I dont yet feel able to really vote, I did on one chalenge but didnt meet enough voted on photos to meet the requirement, but the first thing I do is see if the subject is close enough to the chalenge title to be acceptable, the next thing I do is see what stands out and makes you go mmmmmm, wow and then click on the thumbnail and check the photo more closely. I dont sub-group a challenge but I do tend pass over shots where there are a huge number of the same idea, unless one specifically stands out as an interesting or unique idea within a common sub group to a challenge; colour had a lot of pencils and crayons, so what made one stand out was that it was a box with all the same colour, just different hues, and that made it stand out for me.

I know I wont do well, as my subject content is more everyday for myself due to my work and my lifestyle's so potentially will fail on that aspect, but we shall see.

Also I was trying some new techniques out, so will post a more "original" after the challenge and see what people think in comparison.

Comment wise, people have generally been very helpfull :-)

I am so excited with my score right now. The highest I think I've ever had. Nobody said anything bad about my picture except that I met the challenge "dead on". I am so HAPPY!!!!! I hope I make the top 50 this time. It will be a first! Here's my results as of 2:00pm (cst)

Seems like the voting is very low on this one. I only have 150 votes. MAybe its taking people along time to go through 360 entrys, or maybe they dont care
07/30/2004 11:37:31 AM · #123
I have equal number of votes and equal number of comments for both DPC Album Cover & Everyday Objects. 173 votes & 12 comments.
08/03/2004 06:16:24 AM · #124
Went from a 6.8 down to a 5.2, and now sitting on a 5.87

This has been quite the roller coaster ride.
