Ditto!
I looked at it from the standpoint of NOT using all those fancy tools to make a great photograph as PART of the CHALLENGE! if you don't like basic editing, fine.......you don't have to enter those challenges!!! Period. We all have our thoughts on photography, but it is unfair to narrow the editing to accommodate the tastes of some, but not all. Those not as proficient as others in post processing find a home in the basic editing challenges and are comfortable participating on a more "level" playing field. It's like the bullies telling the shy kids how it's going to be and that isn't a good thing. IMHO!!!

Just to bring a note of rationality back into a debate that's tended towards hyperbole, what's developed as a fairly strong consensus here is NOT that there should be "no level of editing less than advanced" in our rules, but that "the level of editing we call basic" no longer IS, and it ought to be replaced with some version of "the level of editing we call minimal"

I could live with that.

It could be argued that the discussion has also been elliptical and circular ;0

Somebody made a point about the name of "Advanced Editing", that it should be called .... I can't remember exaclty what but it was akin to "typical" editing. This change, coupled with Bear_Music's observation/suggestion, would make sense.

"standard editing", and i believe its current name one of the biggest misconceptions about that particular ruleset.
