Here are the results from week five and overall standings.

If your team has a replacement, you need to let me know by 10/16/2011 (Sunday-Midnight). There will not be any substitutions after that time; NO EXCEPTIONS!

Thanks everyone for a good first half of the season.

Scott

Thanks! No substitutions in team "Just Have Fun". We're doing fine, just having the wrong opponents at the wrong time (looking at the overall scores)

Scott,,, Some teams are being handed wins by not competing or the oppositions not competing this makes a laughing stock of the teams that endevour to do the right by WPL, junkyard Dawgs in the western division have now been handed 2 wins in the first five weeks by a poor showing of their opposition,, Loose Cannons have the second highest Avg in the division by competing in each week with enough entries, but are showing 4th place.
A better result would be achieved if the number of wins was replaced with the teams holding the highest average's play off for the finals.

You can't win by not competing. But there have been teams that have won because other teams haven't had a full slate. But I assume that's why teams are looking for substitutes, so they have a full slate of participating members.

Hold your horses there Scott. It looks like there is something seriously wrong with the scoring for our team, From the Hip, for week 5.

Our scores for week 5 are blank! We didn't do that poorly ;)

I can understand you point of view but at this point I can not judge why the team did not have enough entries, lowering their score. However, this is the reason for the substitution allowance during the bye week. Hopefully this will help solve the problem.

I can't blame them because their opposition did not perform. In week 5, I don't think they expected a win because they all did not have the minimum amount of player scores.

Because they had a low score this week dropped their score. I did the math and if they would of had the four minimum players this week and that player posted a score of the teams first four weeks average then they would be within .09 of the Loose Canons.

With all the above said you DO have a point, I'm not disputing that. I have thought about this a couple of times this season. If we have another WPL I have already came to the conclusion that each Conference will have one wildcard team. The Wildcard team will be based on the teams average. The team with the highest average that did not win their division will be declared the Conference wildcard team and will advance to the playoffs.

I hope this helps explain the dilemma I have to face in finding a balance in how to determine the winners. As in all sports there are going to be games won that should not have been won.

Thanks for your input,
Scott

Sorry about that. I don't know why week 5 did not update for your team. I suspect an error on my part.
It has been corrected. It did not change the W/L column but it did increase your teams average score.

Thanks for keeping an eye on things. Please let me know if you find any errors.

Scott.

I like the idea of a wildcard the next time around. I think that would be an excellent addition!! :)

Just the whole season based on overall average and having no wins or losses each week would be pretty dull...

This is LEAGUE play, based on team won/lost records, just like all team sports; baseball, football, basketball, whatever. The kind of "inequities" that are cropping up here happen all the time in the real world; the highest-scoring teams don't go to the playoffs all the time, do they? Our job, each week, is to beat a specific team, and that's all there is to it :-) Wild Cards would be good from my perspective, because I'm pretty much always on a high-scoring team that plays in the same division as the juggernaut team-du-jour, and I think our teams have finished second every time, in their division... But I still wouldn't want to change the head-to-head nature of this, that's where the fun is.

Well, one more. I hate to bother you with this since you are not being compensated for your efforts (that's DPC job for DPL, right? But I'll save that for rant). When you get the chance, could you please update the scores on our team page (From the Hip). Although the scoreboard has been updated to show that we barely lost week 5, our team page still shows blanks for our scores.

Thanks a lot for this request, and thanks for all of your efforts in doing what many of us think that DPC should be doing with DPL.

For the record, my team, the Junkyard Dogs, has had enough players every week until week 5. This was the very first week I was not able to shoot and we have some that have yet to participate in a challenge for the team, but if both teams don't have enough players for a week...what do you suggest? No one get a win and we both lose? Would that seem fair? It is still based on score for the week. We only had three participants with our opponent having two. So, we should be punished because we (for the only week) didn't have four participants, but our opponents had even fewer participants?? If you have 7 team members and all are participating, lucky you! We also have 7 members, only 5 participate as is possible and it's usually the same few that enter every single week. Calling teams out is not appropriate and the Dogs actually try, so harshing us for a win due to the lack of participation by the opponent is inappropriate. WE can't control participation by our weekly competition and shouldn't be punished because of it. That doesn't mean we aren't trying!! This is supposed to be for fun! If it becomes a requirement that some of our members MUST participate to cover for those that can't participate in a week or don't participate at all, in order for us to get any score, it will take all of the enjoyment out of participating in this.

Scott, I appreciate everything you are doing for this and I also appreciate you trying to keep things clear and fair. Thank you!
