Ok...a change....my original email said it will be delivered on the 14th. The original order track on the Verizon site said will ship on the 24th....yikes ! However, today (Sunday) the Verizon site says will ship on the 14th....so at least the website is trending in the right direction!

Being a camera guy, I can't wait to try out that thing. I'm hoping this is the device that does away with having a $300 point and shoot.

On Friday, my order status showed "shipping" on October 14. Today it shows "delivers 24 Oct to 31 Oct". I believe the dates are all still the same, and that it will ship on the 14th.

If I had a 4, I would surely wait for the next big grade. However, this will be my first iPhone.

In my opinion, even the current iteration aren't as good of a *phone* as options available when the first Apple phone came out--but that's much more subjective.

As for "advanced" goes...the new crop of Android phones with Super Amoled HD 4.3 inch screens and 4G access are surly more advanced than the current Apple phones...however, my new iPhone will be fully integrated with my home computers and entertainment system. I can't come close with my current Android phone.

Thanks for the info on the voice thing Ken. Will give that a try.
This is all new to me - apps etc

Anyone know any good android apps worth looking at.
(I'll just go check previous threads to see if there is one about apps - probably is, I'm just behind the times ;)

My decision was based on being able to use the phone's iCloud feature with all my other Apple hardware. I'm hoping the Siri Voice feature will live up to what they say.

On another note: If you haven't already...you should start using the Google Voice search app that comes with the phone. It works really well for setting alarms and calendar events, and dialing contacts on the phone. It is VERY GOOD at text messaging....

....hit the mic button and say: Text to Paul (or anyone in your contacts) and then simply state your message. After a few seconds, the message box pops up for you to approve and then send. It works so well that I actually had to increase my message limit from 250/month to unlimited ! No more typing short coded messages....I can actually speak a whole paragraph and 99% of the time, it gets every word right. (proper nouns and such are a little harder)

Here's some instructions on the App.

Let me know how you like it.

So far I like it. Deal was better for it than an iPhone as I don't use a phone enough to pay the high monthly price of an iphone4 deal.

So far I'm happy with it. Time will tell.

I have many good apps. I recently got a free one called Strava. It is a GPS mapper that maps your bike ride, walk or run and gives you things like milage, distance, calories etc. You can then upload the the web if you want to and keep it for training purposes.

I have ordered one for several reasons:

1. My iPhone 3G has become very sluggish as the apps are constantly upgraded for the latest iOS.
2. The new iOS 5 will not run on the 3G
3. I do beta testing for a developer, who is finding it hard to maintain compatibility with the 3G, even when it is running iOS 4.2.1
4. It will be nice to have a better camera for those quick snaps.
5. This will be the last one created under the direct influence of Steve Jobs.

Siri will be interesting and maybe useful, although that didn't influence my decision.

Wow, I'm excited about the delivery of my 4S on Friday, Oct. 12. This phone will replace my 24 month old 3GS. I skipped an upgrade cycle without too much pain. The new camera (still and video) alone is worth the upgrade price. But, more importantly, I see the potential of the ios5 operating system and what it means to simplification and sophistication of my Internet experience. I do chuckle (silently) at those who scoff at this 4S upgrade. They know not of what they speak.

And, I sure do encourage the non-believers to buy other products and systems. There are alternatives and the marketplace will sort out winners and losers.

I'll be the first to forum post an iPhone 4S video and still. (Take that as a challenge to my DPC friends.)

Edited to fix grammatical errors.

I'll challenge you on getting the first still or video on the DPC Air. However, I can't beat you if you're getting yours on Friday, Oct. 12 because you will be in another dimension if your phone comes in on that date !

Yes, my typographical error. I stand corrected. Make that Friday, Oct. 14.
"Dear RICHARD HAHN,

Thank you for your recent order! Your iPhone has been reserved. Your order is expected to be delivered on 10/14/11*."

I apologize for my typographical errors. (I'm watching the Broncos lose another game and I was distracted.)

I wasn't super excited at first... then it really occurred to me. TWICE as fast. That's a pretty huge difference in itself. The camera is really exciting me. I've been carrying around a little point & shoot canon and I'm going to just give that away. The Siri looks fun and I foresee this as another revolutionary upgrade that people won't realize the impact of until later (like the iPad). Another feature that people don't realize how much they want until after they have it. We'll wonder how we did without a voice controlled phone.

The really exciting part is that I can turn my old phone in for $200-$250 (depending on the quality) through Gazelle and I'll end up paying only $50-$100. How is that not worth it?

Not only that, I DON'T WANT a bigger iPhone. If I want bigger I'll use my iPad. I want to be able to use it one-handed. I've used the bigger phones and they just don't fit. At least not me.

Pre-ordered last week and should have it in 5 or 6 days. This will be the first one for me.

I hope this Siri thing works good. The Androids have Google search which works pretty good. It works excellent for texting from my Droid. It works well for playing music. However, it is pretty useless for other things. At times if I say "call Mary" (mary is in my contacts) it will pull up a google list of every freaking business with Mary in the title. At other times if I say "call Mary" it works fine.....so a long way to go there. I have a feeling if Jobs let this Siri thing out, it must work fairly well if not close to perfect.

The camera is nice and video is HD.

I have all kinds of Apple stuff in my house and this phone will integrate well.

I want one! reasons:

1) I am playing Modern Combat Black Pegasus on my 3Gs and speed really drags me down...
2) Oh, and the camera sounds good too. Unfortunately not available here in HK, yet.
3) 3Gs is getting more sluggish with every update and the battery only lasts for half a day.
4) I can get some nice shock proof case.
5) some apps that are not there for any android:
a) Motion X-GPS
b) DianHua Chinese English dictionary
6) iPod runs really nice

Don't really care if it was developed directly under Steve jobs

I tried the Moto Defy with Android, iPhone is still better.

Mine (ordered through Apple) left China on the 10th and arrived to Louisville at 2am this morning (with a few stops on the way). Now it has a VERY short trip to West Palm Beach, FL! I can't help but wonder if it's POSSIBLE for it to get here early.

Being an iPhone 4 owner already I wasn't all that compelled to upgrade when the 4s was announced. Usually more megapixels means a hit to image quality with a small sensor, but after reading the article linked below it sounds to me like the camera on the 4s will be better and quicker to use than the one on the 4. I will be listening closely to what people report once the new model gets into some hands.
I got the iPhone 4 the day it was released, so I only need to wait until Nov. 25 to upgrade to a 4s if I want to do so at a subsidized price. And most likely I would be able to sell my current phone which is in mint condition for the price of a new phone. Hmmmm....
