Text wasn't required for the challenge, but we were allowed to add it...

Yes I know that now, wish it haddn't some I think look just fine with no words, some I think it actually ruins the shot.

I just suck at photography. Or perhaps I suck at meeting the challenge. I just suck at life

Me and you are in the same boat, anyone else want to join the woe-is-me-club

I would join, but I still have hope, fools hope, but hope!

I'm impressed with quite a few of the shots, but overall I think it has the usual balance; I'm often initially wowed, then as I continue on, find that I just got a large amount of ones I particularly liked at the first.

As for scores, mine started out very good but is down in the mediocre area now, which is fine. Frankly, I'm surprised it's doing as well as it is, because - while I think it's a good photo - I didn't expect it to appeal to everyone. If anyone. Hehehe...

My prediction for the final score is quite a ways from what it's at now (downward); you really can't judge how you'll end up by the initial numbers, so it's silly to become upset at this point. I've had pictures that started at 7-10 end in the 4s, and ones that started in the 4s end in the 6 range.

see that's just the thing usually where the voting starts with me that's pretty much where it ends up, not trying to be all negative, there are some good ones and not so good ones, one I assume is mine from the score

Wish mine'd finish where it started. ;)

I'm in the 5s and started in the 7-8 range.

Except for the 15 entries without any titles or squared like an album cover - majority of submissions should be receiving scores of 7 to 9 for imagination and creativity..... with a few lower and a few higher.

I have words on my entry and its square but I seem to be doing really bad lately I dont know why I thought it was very creative.
Oh well!

i think the voters gotta get a real headache with this challenge....not only the photo composition is great, the fellow DPC-er also took emphasis with the text!! guess those guys from Warner, SOny Music, BMG etc... should grab these DPC-ers for their next album covers!
07/26/2004 07:09:45 AM · #38
Don't think they'll be grabbing me anytime soon....LOL

I'm hanging on to a 5.52 by a thread. After seeing the submissions, I've decided mine is just too boring...not enough conflict.

Note to self...borrow Jacko's conflict kitty for the next few challenges...

I am not doing so well but who cares.
The real thing I like to see is that this challenge really allowed people to shoot all different types of shots and subjects- an deven though you think you would see "digital art" type stuff- there wasn't too much loss of pure photographic integrity. Most the shots I've seen have that nice feel of an independent album.

If you knew it was going to happen and you submitted it anyway, does that still make US thick headed?

i hope that that isn't the case, as i don't think any shots should be knocked down for an absense of words. afterall, don't many modern releases feature name and title in the spine area behind the clear dish, and feature nothing on the sleeve itself? also, this square malarky is silly because the challenge didn't specify a Vinyl release, and can't one assume that if it ain't square, it could be intended for a limited edition digipak or an older fashioned longbox (which were lovely - still got mine!)

anyway, mine happens to be square, in focus, has lettering, and (i thought) a reasonablyish good picture. but it's doing stinky too - should have called it Disinteresting Piece of Crap. oh hum.

You have commented on 123 images (99%) in this challenge.

Finished, yay :)
(the 124th image is my own, so I can't vote or comment on that)

Lots of really nice shots in there. I hope some people find my comments useful. I tried to comment on the graphic design aspect as well as the photography aspect in this challenge.

Ahhhh Music DVD's don't have squared covers and there is no rule to CD's either that I'm aware of that they must be squared. Just that most conform to the norm.

I have never laughed so much as with the imagination for the names of DPC! I love them!

Its been a fun challenge no matter what the score and I learnt so much trying to do mine!

Bob

The "chocolate" challenge left me a little underwhelmed, but DPC Album covers has kicked the quality back up a notch. I am really enjoying the voting on this challenge.
07/26/2004 10:46:19 AM · #49
I glanced through them last night, didn't vote because I wasn't all that impressed with a great deal of them, sorry. It looks more like a photoshop contest this time than a photography contest amd quite a few of them looked very over processed.

When I do go vote I'm going to be taking into consideration, does the cover grab my attention? Does it make we want to pick it up and look at it more closely? Does it appeal to me on an overall sense?

And I do not have an entry in this challenge

I went back and reworked a copy of my entry using your suggestion, Konador, and it looks way too much better. Thanks for your help.
