I saw this bird in a marsh yesterday. Does anyone know what it is or what sites are good for bird identification?

Its a heron but i'm not sure which one.. it's not a great blue heron tho... check your bird books for species of herons that are in your area...

Looks like a green heron to me also! Very elusive, scidish of people,GREAT SHOT!I don`t know of any Sites Colette, I have a couple of books of the birds of North America. One is a field guide it has them all and its was less than $20.

A near mature Green Heron.

Black Headed Night Heron would be my bet.

Thanks for the link. I've added the uncropped image to my original post to show more context. 300mm was definitely not enough zoom.
