I stumbled across a photo of mine on a local property rental business' website. The office is near my house, so I dropped an invoice in their mailbox last night on my way home from work. I phoned during the day, but only got voice mail. Too bad they aren't open late enough that I could walk in and hand the invoice to a human, with my idling chainsaw in my other hand. (In case you missed it... my new chainsaw.)

$350 + $45.50 GST.

My photo, below, cycles through in a slide show on their front (and other) page.

What do you think will happen?

'Property rental'... sounds a bit mafia-ish.

Perhaps they'll be the ones arriving on your doorstep with chainsaws?

Show up wearing flipflops with your toes painted and they'll pay

Go in and find the manager and hand deliver when they ignore the one in their mailbox.....

I think they will tactfully ignore you.

Show them the chainsaw video. They'll something their somethings when they see your bare feet. I particularly liked the moment when you were about to chainsaw your lawn.

Don't forget another fee for wasting your time.

This should be good. Can't wait to hear how they respond. Good luck.

I predict a YouTube classic. You should show up with your video camera running, dressed as Batman and demand payment.

I second this - if nothing else they may simply pay because they're concerned enough about your mental health to be scared of you.. :) And, please, video is a must set the camera somewhere though so we can see all the action... LOL

Someone wanted to use a different photo of mine in a gallery. I searched on his group and the website has a link to this other one, but they aren't affiliated.

You're a local. You want to be my leg-breaker? ;-D

I put Terms net 14 days on the invoice. If it isn't paid by then I'll contact a lawyer and throw them all in jail.

For one thrilling moment, I thought the site's contact page had one of my pics of Bronte Creek park. Nobody ever steals my stuff. :/

You have to shoot fewer artsy close-ups and do some general Burlington scenes. I've been contacted twice about them in the last couple of weeks. It's a shame nobody can afford me, but it saves me digging them out of my archives. ;-)

But do you only have pictures here, or somewhere else that they're getting found. At. (?)

Boy, that was easy to find... Bookmarked...

They got that one from Panaramio (Google Earth). It's the only place I put that one. Are you implying I don't have a case? :-(

Hm? No. Stolen, for sure. I was just curious where it was snagged from.

Whoa! I'm pretty sure that posting to Panoramio is tantamount to surrendering copyright. It's GOT to be covered by a Creative Commons license or something...

R.

Maybe not:

"It's important to respect the copyright of each contributor. To find out whether you can use, copy, print or download a photo from Panoramio.com, see Legalities and policies."

AND:

Policy questions and answers

A Panoramio user copied my photo without my permission. How to file a complaint?

Please visit our DMCA page where you will find all the information on how to file a notice.

Another website is displaying my photo. Is that allowed?

There are two ways that another site might legitimately display your photo:

The site uses an embedded Panoramio map, as described in a previous section.
The site uses the Panoramio API.
A site that uses the Panoramio API can show photos that appear on Panoramio, free of charge. The site must credit the photographer and link to the original photo page. Sites that use the Panoramio API cannot store copies of the photos.

For more information about your rights, please review the Panoramio Terms of Use. In brief, the Terms of Use explain that you retain rights over photos that you upload to Panoramio, but that you allow Google to display the photos through services such as the Panoramio API.

However, if you suspect that the owner of another site copied your photo improperly, you'll need to contact that site to resolve things.

We can act only to resolve issues of copying within Panoramio. If someone copies your photos to another site, you'll need to take action yourself.

Can I use, copy, print or download a photo from Panoramio?

To use, copy, print, or download a photo from Panoramio, you must get explicit permission from the photographer. To contact a photographer to ask for permission, add a comment to the photo or use the Private messaging feature. The owner of the photo will receive an email with your comment and can contact you back.

You do not need permission to use the Panoramio API to display Panoramio photos on your site. For more information, see the API page.
