Good luck, Caree. It's a horrible feeling. But it will all work out.

Can you open them in the Digital Photo Professional that I'm guessing came with your camera?
I recovered a bunch of files from an external drive and CS5 won't read them, but DPP opens them up just fine.

Yes thats a good idea to try that since its Canons native program for working with RAW images...

I tried it just now. I have a Canon G12. The software came with it. I didn't have any luck.

Trying other things....

Send me one more file. If possible, send one that is closest to one that "works"

EDIT: Ok I check on my canon G12. The naming structure is IMG_1234.CR2

If your files are not displaying the letter "I" then that means for some reason it (camera) has prepped the file for deletion. In normal conditions, you would no longer be able to see the file. But for some reason you can see the file.

Look at all the "bad" ones...is the "I" missing? if it is and a "good" one has the "I", then we're on to something.

Don't scan that disk or take any photos with it.

Lets see what we can do in the morning.

KS

Ok...about to stop for the night.

Let me ask you this. The file you sent me shows that it is named

_MG_6626.CR2

Can you check some of your other raw files that "worked" and see if there is a "line" before the letters MG

I'm thinking it should be an "I" there but I'm not sure. When a computer or camera "deletes" a file, it really does not remove it forever. It simply screws with the naming system and stores it away until you over write it.

Look and see if any of your working files have a letter in front of that MG and let me know.

For some reason, ALL OF MINE are like that...there is a line instead of the I, not sure when/how it ever changed!

Caree...send me a file and I'll give it a go! All is NOT lost, for sure!

Yes...I read up about the underscore....some sights say it has something to do with selecting a RGB color choice.

Adobe IS RGB, just different from SRGB. It's Adobe RGB...

//www.cardrecovery.com/os.asp

This "loss of directory" can happen if one does quite a lot of deleting of images .... here and there... on a flash card. Sometimes this is done to make room for shooting more images on a card. That's not a great idea, but it takes a scary experience to scare one straight. Most of the images can be recovered, but a few may be lost. Sandisk used to distribute the software for free with certain CF cards. I don't know about now.

//www.cardrecovery.com/os.asp software works really well. It should even be able to recover images you had on the card previously and deleted. You wont be able to recover all of them.. but it should work for at least some. Give it a shot.

It was so late and I typed Adobe RGB...thought I was losing my mind and removed the RGB. I need to go to bed earlier! That is correct.

FYI - Sandisk no longer provides the free rescue pro. It now is a yearly subscription as I tried to use mine recently, but needed their 'updated' software. Boo!

Really? Just for grins, I fired up the copy that's installed on my desktop machine, and away it went. It's version 3.5.0.10

My two cents, I would place a newly formatted card (not the one with the wedding pictures, of course)in the camera and try shooting a few pictures using the same parameters that you used in the wedding shoot, then see if there is a similar problem with those pictures. If the problem is replicated you could assume that you have a defective camera that is writing corrupt files and there would be no probable solution to your dilemma. If the problem is not there, then chances are you will find the way to recover the files from the card. In that case, unless you have done it before, I would send the card to somebody that knows how to do it.

Like I mentioned, I had to update my software (Windows to Mac) and even with the software registration for the other, they still wanted $29 for the year (discount price for return customers) and since my version wasn't the most current one out there, I was stuck! :( I wanted the 3.5.0! :P

I've had this happen a handful of times with Lightroom3. I then use the EOS utility software to transfer the files. I'm surprised this occurred when using the drag drop method. BTW, PC or Mac.

EOS utility, (doh), yes. Do most NOT use this method to transfer photos from card to pc? (Maybe I am doing something I shouldn't be, uh-oh.)
