I see your point, but it's really not the simple examples you described. For instance, in the "c" challenge...take a picture of something that begins with the letter "c", if you take a ladder and form it into the shape of a "c" and submit that, that is a DNMC, because ladder does not start with a "c". just because you shape it into a "c" does not make it start with the letter "c".

I'd call it 'Challenging'.

In order to avoid that scenario, i simply cannot give a dnmc anything greater than a 5.

I questioned some voters' ability to understand how the author perceived the challenge. You have trivialized the issue.

If I don't understand it, then it's a DNMC for me... I know for certain that I can bullshit an explanation as to why anything meets any criteria.. Therefore, I think if you haven't made the connection obvious enough for a reasonable and intelligent person to understand it, then you haven't made the connection, DNMC - BOOM! 1-4 vote. done.

I still don't really "get" this photo ... but I didn't give it a 1... if it a play on the word "relative" as in a mother and child at the beach, it's cute but DNMC

I'm pretty open to subject matter, and I'm sorta ruthless about DNMC as a result. For me, I don't really see the point of having challenge prompts if you're constantly trying to circumvent them. If you're outside my zone of latitude, I tend to vote down pretty harshly, and a title is not enough to create a relation. I sit and look at the photo first, and evaluate it. After I look at things, I look at the title, which is considered based on its consistency with the subject matter and feel of the photo. If the photo means nothing to me in regards to the challenge, I don't vote it high. I take photos that I think are better than my entries frequently, but that doesn't mean I'm so desperate as to cram them into a box they don't fit into using a title...

I have a better idea. How about spelling out to us exactly what your cute quote means in relation to this DNMC thread. I read it and simply came to the conclusion that you were trying to insult someone but didn't want to do it directly.

Sorry if I'm missing something "easy to see" but at times I need things explained to me.

It has NOTHING to do with it, which is what your comment has to do with this thread. how did you not see that? I had it spelled out for ya. Give me my minumum 5 vote please for DNMC. Mor. you took that hook, line, and sinker. Boy, am I a stinker@!!!! ROFLMAO

My first reactions were "time depends on the observer" (relativity :) and "over time we disappear into nothing" (sad perspective :(, both about time. A perfect example of why some people would not get it - you need to be capable of emotions.

Don't worry Kenny, he can't explain it either. he has to use somebody else's quotes cause he can't think of none. He obviously doesn't know what it means either, cause it makes no sense in this thread.

No offense Bear_Music, but so many people "got it", it came in 86th. I don't understand. It is a nice photo, just doesn't show the subject of Time to me, and obviously many others feel the same.

Over and out. No matter what arguments you present there is just one response.
PS Not to be misunderstood - the above was aimed at the dominant "literal" voices in this thread.

I still like the quote though. It gathers speed with this thread. Gains resonance. I like it!

Many voters don't like blurred photos, nothing to do with the understanding of the topic. Your assumptions are skewed.

Well... all assumptions are skewed. They are by nature inaccurate, particularly when they relate to an amorphous voting base that everybody alternately decries and lauds for their density and open minded receipt of "outside the box" entries ;)

And "getting it" has nothing to do with placement. Many people find that the message of works conveyed is objectionable. There are plenty of books for children I understand perfectly well and find to be rubbish, and there are probably many novels I enjoy for reasons completely separate of those the author intended or aimed for. This speculation is sorta amusing. Many would find works more enjoyable after they read the photographer's notes, to understand their intent and the travails they went through to capture the image, but we are not given that option, we are blindly judging upon an image, so don't pretend anything else to be true. Voting is voting, we all have opinions of our own (and I wouldn't have it any other way!).

Hey everybody, I've figured it out.

Let's have Langdon come up with a feature whereby a voter is able to leave some sort of personalized message specific to each image. He can leave it at the time of voting in some sort of white comment box underneath the image, or he can even come back later and leave his "comment" at another time.

Ideas?

His assumption was that the only reason why Bear's image scored low was that most voters thought it was DNMC. I pointed out that there are some styles most DPC voters don't like and hence it did not have to be DNMC to get low votes.
PS Sorry, I had to repeat this as I thought my point was not clear.
