Good points! But one reason to enter is to just stretch your style a little and try something different - it all adds up to more experience, which is always a good thing. |

But I have a lovely comment from Shez! I know why it dropped a couple of points but that was something I couldn't do anything about (had to use a lower quality camera!) so I don't mind.
I commented on about half and voted on them all (only a couple of 3 or 4, most of them 5 or 6, more than usual 7 or 8 and I even gave one 9 and one 10.

I thought people weren't meant to vote on how appropriate the photo is to the theme? I'm sure I read that in the rules when I joined this site. My first entry into a challenge got a really low vote and it seemed to be because it didn't meet the theme, because the quality of the image was okay.

Actually, it's the opposite. From the rules on this page:
You should:
consider the challenge topic when voting, and adjust your score accordingly.

This is a nice surprise this morning, since it had a low 4 last night after 10 votes. The problem with the photo is: I LOVE it, and that has always been the kiss of death for my scores in the past. I'm so glad I entered this challenge. It was hard, but it opened my eyes to a new way of seeing. Thank you Shez for the inspiration, and thank you DPC for this great exercise. |

My mistake. I've looked again and I was thinking of these rules:
You should:
recommend an entry be reviewed for disqualification if you feel it violates any rule. To do this, use the “here if you suspect a rules violation”. link on the image’s voting page, and give your reason in the space provided. After submitting your requests, vote assuming the entry did not violate any rules.
You may not:
give an entry a lower score because you believe it violates the Challenge Rules.
But it also says:
You should:
keep an open mind to other interpretations of the challenge topic.
consider the challenge topic when voting, and adjust your score accordingly.
So there's a different between the rules and the theme. Don't vote down if it breaks the rules, do vote down if it breaks the theme. I'll remember that.

The non-Shez comment was really helpful and possibly the reason im getting low scores. It was something i considered when trying to choose between 2 images but I went with what I thought Shez would like more, although Im probably wrong and thought about it all way too much!! Overthinking is a danger |

Almost no mid-range votes. 1 five and 2 sixes.

I also shot something that is more like what I thought Shez would enjoy seeing instead of trying to copycat her marvelous ability to capture color form and shading. So far, it's above my expectations for score. It started with the first vote 4, and now is at 5.7, with a couple of nice comments. I'm happy just to be a part of this one.
