Another thing is, regardless of all this, my own ability to recognize and create higher quality images has improved, in part due to this site.

For me, it's a challenge to make a decent looking image, but it's not as challenging as it used to be.

I'm still new to this site and like the community and challenges, but I see the decline, I can look at the history.
I also am one to complain about the "iron box" that the average literalist DPC voter confines themselves to and the harsh voting this digital contest endures.
If no one stands up and points out our naked emperors, we all end up living like fools in a pit. I like the sun and the warmth of a smile and love personally.

Of course amsterdamman is right. I'm sick of people voting whatever they feel like. What are they thinking??? This site is nothing more then a sham of the point greedy wealthy. The top pictures aren't better they just get better scores. It's obvious how unfair this system is. What we need here is an even distribution of the votes from the high vote getters to those less talented. I mean ribbon challenged (Like myself of course.) Ribbons should be awarded to those that had a really good idea, even if they can't manifest it in a photograph.
So we must rise up and and demand our fair share of 6 and 7!!! If we can't get them then NOBODY should have them! The site council should immediately step in and control the voting or throw it out! What good is it anyway? Take the points from the point wealthy and distribute them NOW!!! It's only fair.

If the site council can't get our act together then they should be removed and replaced with people who can fairly redistribute the points. Of course the new site council will be hard working and they should be given extra points for make this a fair site.

If the site council refuses to step down then we really need government intervention. Only the government can tell us the proper way to think and vote.

Viva La Revolucion!
(and not a bad commentary on the the U.S. politico-economic battle)

If this were a dictatorship website, which is may be, seeing the unrest amongst the membership the equivalent of assassinations to cull the disquiet would be account deletions :-)
Ware you revolutionists!

My last two comments:

#1 "I love the crop"
#2 "I really don't like the crop"

:) Overall, the score is a crash and burn at 5.24......seem to be stuck in the low 5's these days, which is an indictment of my lack of serious effort. Trying to turn a happy snap into a DPC entry is clearly not a successful strategy!

SEEMS to work better if you shoot FOR the challenge rather than trying to find a shot to put IN the challenge, lol! ;~}

Definitely!
I learnt that a long time ago... but still haven't much learnt from it.

Actually for me, it seems to work the opposite way. ;D

A good sign, although the score has dropped a fair amount.
