I just love moments like this, when the perfect photo walks right up to you and asks to be taken. =)

This was from my road trip last week while I was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Have you all had similar experiences? I would love to hear about them and see the photos you took.

This guy came to me last month when I was at a photographer's low. I shot a wedding with my husband the first weekend in July, so for a month before I was preparing myself for their big day. Since then all my free time has gone into editing those photos. It was the weekend, and I was bummed out. My husband called to me that there was a dragonfly on the cable line just off our porch. I shrugged it off figuring it would just fly away by the time I got there. Well, it didn't.

It was hunkered down in the afternoon breeze, so I grabbed my camera. I quietly opened the screen door and stepped outside. I took several photos before it took off. Then to my surprise it landed again almost as if he had heard me saying the lighting sucked where he had been sitting. This was the first photo after that second landing.

Do you always go shooting in your prom dress?? hehe... J/K. ;)

What a fortunate event. How bold is that deer too?? I would be nervous as anything trying to get a good shot of the deer and probably would have missed the opportunity fumbling with my camera settings. You were like grace under pressure!

And, El-roi, I just really love dresses and rarely wear pants and t-shirts. =)

He couldn't see my eyes, so I don't think he knew what was going on. Followed him with the camera for almost 100 yards to get this. (Needs reworked.)

Same place, day, diff. deer. I stopped as I knew three deer were walking straight for me. I blended in well with the surroundings, so they didn't notice me. Two walked by...I waited, waited, then all of a sudden, from behind the tree right in front of me walks this deer. I could have almost touched her! She was too close for my lens, lol!!!!
Edit: Deer was a female.

Unsure.. Maybe someone was trying out the feature?

Just a hunch... Lol.

I have a story like that as well..

This teenaged black bear was so close to me that I could hear his big paws hitting the floor. Luckily for me he was across a canal. Which the side that I was on there was a dock that had a wall too high for him to get up so I was perfectly safe.

Was such a cool experience!!!

Just shows you should always have your camera on you. Some great shots there, well done!

Caught this in egypt a while ago, something I didnt even expect to see around my feet.

Very rare encounter, bobcat in Yosemite Valley, this was within 15 feet... Had only instants to grab the image as it transited.

This is what I was shooting when the bobcat happened by:

Only on a photography website can we say that we are shooting a deer and no one think we are actually shooting the deer. Lol. Cool bobcat Bear!

I hope the deer and bobcat didn't have a "close encounter" after your shots. LOL.

Okay, here's mine....not a good shot by any means, but predator and prey got really close to each other before they knew it.

My son and I were driving a rented convertible in the Shenandoah National park about ten days ago when we came across these deer grazing in the grass just off of and above the road. We had pulled off of the road and were facing the other way when my son looked ahead of us and asked "What's that?".

It was a coyote sitting down on our side of the road scratching itself with a hind leg. It finished and then started trotting directly towards us. Just before it got to us (about 15 yards away) it crossed to the other side of the road (the side the deer were on) and kept an eye on us as it passed by.

While keeping and eye on us it was oblivious to the deer just ahead of it and the deer were too busy feeding to see the coyote until they were within 20 yards of each other. The deer looked up at about the same time as the coyote seemed to feel that it was far enough away from us and looked forward again to see the deer.

The deer immediately began jumping high in the air away from the coyote. Several crossed the road and the rest went further away from the road. The coyote seemed particularly interested in the two baby deer that still had spots on them but he wasn't able to get close enough to any of them for an ambush.

edit to add: Some of the deer, including the two babies, were at the bottom of the hill right at roadside when they initially saw the coyote...pretty much right next to where the coyote is currently in the picture.

It was quite a unique experience to have a view of the deer and the coyote on a collision course well before either of them saw each other.

Ha! I forgot about that shot.

What a coincidence...right now I am re-editing my close up alligator shot from 2007 and applying post processing techniques that I have learned over the years. I'm submitting it to a jury panel for consideration for a three month exhibition.

Thanks for posting this. Going into faves.
