I was thinking about hitting the new Steinhart aquarium on August 4. Free museum Wednesday :) Also includes the Asian Art Museum and the San Francisco Zoo I believe.

Edit: Some of the museums are freebee Wednesday and most of the downtown museums are freebee Tuesday.

That's a possibility if it's mid- or late afternoon. I have to work Wednesday mornings. I'd probably pick the aquarium first.

I know someone who knows soemone at the Asian Art Museum. I'll check out if we can arrange a photo shoot there sometime if people are interested ... I don't know what their policy is on "casual" photography.

Sounds great in concept. Opening day at Steinhart would probably be a better day for shooting crowds than fish.

It's already open. That particular day is free admission.

From closing night at the old location

Sounds good! I've got all day August 4 free for whatever works out. The Conservatory over in Golden Gate Park also has some good photo ops. Not sure it has 'free' days, though.

If there's a better day for everyone to go to the Academy of Sciences, I do have five guest passes, as I'm a member.

San Francisco area get together on August 4. Looks like some of us are free most of the day and that GeneralE & maybe Isaac could be available in the afternoon. How about a meet time of 1:30? Front door? Or PM me and we can set up a better time, etc.

I won't know until late next Monday ... but go ahead and plan. Probably closer to 2 or three is more realistic for me, but I could probably catch up if you all want to start earlier.

Yippee! That's three. Faidoi? BrennanOB? Anyone else?

I might be able to make it over for the day, if my company plans to leave before then. I will let you know in plenty of time.
The Academy of Sciences won't let you take a tripod inside, it is okay to take pictures but just not good ones I guess.
Hope to see you there, wherever you decide to meet. When do you think we might adjourn?

Yes, will be there. Where's the official meeting place and time? Academy of Science directions for anyone that not sure of the temp location.

Since we're downtown I'm thinking about searching for some of the Hearts of S.F.. Heart locations map (pdf file)for anyone interested.

Bump for confirmation purposes. As I may not have internet access for at least a week after tonight.

I think Isaac and I can be there ... I'm trying to interest a couple other friends as well.

When/where are we meeting, and how do we hook up if when I'm late? Do we all have to wear hats from Interstellar Propeller?

I remembered reading about the Hearts in San Francisco project when they first started installing them and a couple of times after but I've never actually seen one. I figured they were all downtown. Now looking at that map I see there are at least 5 hearts in areas that I frequently travel. I wonder why I've never seen one.

I just asked a friend of mine who, according to the map, lives right near several. She hasn't seen them either. Very odd.

I saw several walking from Chinatown past Union Square ... there's a couple in front of Macy's. They are about five feet high and wide, maybe 18" thick, and variously decorated.

I don't believe that all the hearts are actually up yet. I'm still waiting for them to put the 3 in the Sunset district up.

And I've never had great success shooting aquaria ... maybe we should discuss that too ... :(

Where's your net access going?

According to the website the hearts are going to be taken down in September and start being auctioned for charity in November. Seems odd that they wouldn't all be up if they are going to remove them in just two months.

EDIT: You added the part about the ones in the Sunset. According to the map there are four. Those were the ones I was thinking of plus the one over by SFSU. I've never seen that one either.

Was shot in the old location even with poor lighting. I'm moving so I'm unplugging my internet sometime tomorrow morning.

That sounds good but be forewarned I do often run late, especially with one (or more) kids in tow and coming by public transit -- I will do my best! Maybe they have some interesting exterior details ...

I have a polarizer I can hold in front of my camera ... might that help? I'm pretty limited in the way of adjustments with my camera.
