Hope all DPC members who are in the UK are safe and have not been caught up in the rioting.

Unbelievable scenes: //www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14461868

Amid London riots, baseball bat sales soar 6,500% on Amazon.

My street is shutting down at the moment, preparing for riots, police are walking the streets but doesn't seem like my area is the target - at least for tonight. My local took down all the tellies and hid bottles etc, and all shop shutters are down. A bit scary.

Not far to Tottenham from where I live and the riots has already been in the south part of my area, thank good for living in the north part without good shops to loot etc ;)

Did see on the news that they'd smashed the windows in Jessops. Did feel like going down and get some new lenses etc, but being an honest person stopped me ^^

What's driving me crazy is the police response. Any other country in the world would have water cannons, tear gas and plastic bullets out by now.

The current response is just encouraging these idiots.

Yeah, its slightly crazy here too.

Work shut down early last night and again tonight to be safe, had a load of our windows there smashed, but not enough to shut us down or worry about.

Where I live should be fine, we have nothing exciting at all out here, just houses and a few little shops and newsagents.

It just feels strange here, everyones on edge a little

I hope the situation will clear up very soon.
In the meanwhile: keep safe everyone.
We all follow up the news here in Belgium.

Yeah, if anything is a valid case for water cannons, it's this.

If they'd used them on the first night it'd be over by now. In fact, it probably wouldn't have gotten started.

Hose the scumbags off the streets!

Agreed, the minute the police get tough, they'll go running home crying to mummy!

Sadly the only place in the UK that has water cannons is Northern Ireland, there are none on mainland UK.

Not just London either - Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Wolverhampton has also experienced rioting/looting.

Whole country is going down the drain and the govt will not give the police a free-hand to deal with these scum.

We are now repeaing the reward for being a nanny state that has taken the softly-softly approach to mindless violence and the scum that carry it out.

I think London's fine tonight, it's full of police. The problems have moved north into Manchester and Birmingham.

I read a news story about the yobs breaking into a restaurant and stealing jewelry and wallets from the patrons...WTF?

Of course the UK doesn't allow citizens to defend themselves, so...

There are now large groups of citizens out in force in various parts of London doing just that - defending their own area. The various communities in London - particulary the Turkish community, and the Sikh community in Southall - you would not want to mess with them believe me.

I'm attempting to keep out of this thread but it's hard. People advocating using plastic bullets against looted x-box carrying children as young as 13 or so makes me feel sick.

edited to add i'm expecting the usual lazy 'you're condoning' bullshit.

So, you would rather they continue to run about setting fire to buildings until people are killed in the fires?

...no plastics bullets I say. :O)

Ah, the either/or stuff. This seems to be similer to the inability of much of the press and many people at the moment to realise that 'socially disenfranchised' and 'mindless looting thugs' are not mutually exclusive.

Xbox carrying 13 year olds? pfffft..

Try telling that to those people who have lost businesses and homes for no reason other than pure thuggery. Regardless of what you are reading in the press, these are grown men AND women (not to mention those innocent little kiddies with their cute nicked xboxes)... The twats are on TV saying that they are `protesting against poverty` and such... Nonsense - its incredible how they can `protest poverty` whilst organising their looting sprees in their £100 trainers and on their £300 smart phones.

If it was YOUR home they was ransacking or your business they was torching then I am sure you would feel a lot differently.

Look, I know you don`t particularly like me, but really I dont give a fuck to be honest - you are not the one who had to watch smoke billowing above the Essex/Hertfordshire skyline today from a warehouse torched by mindless idiots - with that smoke I see jobs burning, home and lives.. Plastic Bullets and Water Cannon? Yeah, sure, but lets remove the words "Plastic" and "Water" - then we are getting somewhere.

Are these not the same yobs who have torched buildings, cars and attacked people - what are 13 year olds doing out on the street all night?

Awwww, bless `em.

Mindless...

Well, i don't remember saying i don't like you Simms. I'm pretty sure that we disagree on a lot politically but that doesn't mean that i don't like you seeing as i've never met you. I'm sure you're a nice bloke. As to watching smoke billowing over Essex, no. I'm in Wales at the moment. I was, however, worried sick about my 20 year old son last night as he lives in Ealing. I also lived for many years in London, in Brixton and Tottenham for most of it, and still have many friends there. So, really, lets not do the whole 'you don't know what it's like' bollocks, ok?

Again, i'm not condonning at all. I think the rioters and looters are hideous and are ripping shit out of their own homes and communities.

I just don't agree with the current media and polititical narrative that these people, kids or adults, are just mindless thugs that have appeared out of thin air without any other social problems affecting them at all. Thats obviously bullshit to my mind.

I also think that using plastic bullets against them is wrong. Is it so hard for you to understand that just by thinking that i am not automatically 'on their side' ?

Because everyone knows 13 yo looters don't know right from wrong and fully expect their actions to have no consequences.
