Before I get going on this thread, I want to make something clear: I am not calling any of the following shots cliche, nor am I trying to attack them in anyway.

I was struck by the similar subject matter in some of these shots -- mostly because they don't seem to be the kinds of things you'd normally go out and shoot. The wind based electricity generators, the different poppy shots (not that people don't shoot poppies, but I'm a California boy who spent some time in England and so I either think orange poppies or red ones -- not the kind with crenellated petals), etc etc etc.

I suppose it's possible families all went out and happened to shoot the same things -- who knows. Anyway, just found it curious.

The lightning shots fascinate me... I need to make some attempt at some point to try this myself. Where I live, the terrain is quite hilly and you need to be on higher ground to be able to actually see the lighting... I can see myself now standing on a hilltop with an umbrella and my camera... Famous redneck last word: "Hey you guys... watch this!"

I thought it was interesting how many shot horses. We must have some cowboys and cowgirls in our group! Cool.

Kinda off subject but has anybody got any tips for photographing lightning? I attempted it last week for the free challenge. I got very wet, very cold and a little annoyed but I did not get a picture of lightning. :)

I have shot lightning a few times. I always stay in the house and shoot it through an open window, don''t like going out in that stuff:-) I have my camera set on an 8 second exposure, pointed in the direction of the storm. You will get a shot sooner or later.

nothing wrong with it, but i am very suprised at the amount of macro shots of insects. some really beautiful shots in that bunch; i didn't expect to see so many. some really great shots, though, all around.

I was surpised about the amout of bugs and flowers. The subject is overdone... and if you shot them, it needs to be unique, creative, and to be blunt, an AMAZING shot if I'm going to score it well...
