Came across the work of Marcel Fischer by chance today. Some breathtaking and fascinating images and really a joy to browse his portfolio.

I don't agree that he is a fantastic photographer based on the first 80 images in his Travel gallery. He has been to many, many fantastic and mostly iconic places, but I think that his images, overall, fall well short of those of fantastic photographers.

His images are what I am concerned about coming home with after traveling with a tour group...mostly poor, overhead, midday light. That's one of the biggest reasons that I prefer to travel alone on my own schedule instead of being hustled along on the schedule of a tour group even though it often costs a lot more to go solo.

I'm not saying that he did travel with a group, but he certainly didn't seem to take best advantage of the locations that he visited and he's been to some awesome places. Many of those shots (certainly, there are some great exceptions) would have been much better with early morning or early evening light as well as some better post processing.

Again, I disagree. Looking at your portfolio I see a lot of good images there, especially your cloudy and 'rainy day' images. You also seem to have developed an interesting style in your post processing that, while not unique, is a pretty cool style that you use well.

You may think that you currently are not on par with Marcel Fischer, but I think that you are in the ball park and certainly on the right track. We all could learn a lot more and you are already doing something towards that end by viewing and discussing exiting images. The next step is to apply what you have learned, whether it be to avoid what you now perceive as mistakes by others and by repeating techniques that seem to have worked well toward what you would like to achieve.

I think that you can definitely find yourself consistently producing images at least as good as his in short time.
